Saturday Live Scoring Updates

Good afternoon on yet another rainy October weekend (Guh) and welcome back to the live scoring blog for a Week 6 Saturday afternoon.

Not a ton of games out there today but, most important, the big one between St. Joseph and New Canaan is on for 1:30.

We will, once again, get you as many scoring updates as possible via Twitter.

Here’s the local schedule. Staples at Harding, 1:30 p.m.; St. Joseph at New Canaan, 1:30 p.m.; Danbury at Westhill, 2:00 p.m.; Seymour at Wilby, 1:30 p.m.; Newtown at Weston, 3:00 p.m.; Bullard Havens Tech at Tourtellotte/Ellis Tech, 1:30 p.m.

We’re sure to get a few outside scores as the day goes on. Enjoy!

  1. Staples QB breaks ankle. Unfortunate considering the type of game it was.

  2. Staples QB breaks ankle in 1st Q and Wreckers win 40-0 anyway…..Unfortunate that every HS reporter covered 1 game today. There are newsworthy events at every game, every weekend.

  3. Brian: It has been confirmed on the live blog. Pacilio broke his ankle in the second quarter of Saturday’s 40-0 victory over Harding at Hedges Stadium. Keith Gelman finished the game. Quotes from Marce are on the live blog.

  4. Referee: Sorry we can’t get every score out there. This was just one of those days where there was only game anybody cared about.

From our end, we had one daily reporter at the game (Dave Ruden) and me, but I went to shoot video. The New Canaan weekly reporter was also at the game Tweeting the proceedings. Tim Parry was there to cover for his blog. And, finally, we had a fan at the game tweeting his observations. Which of us should have been somewhere else?

As a group, we did have other games covered. But, unfortunately, they do not have the capability to send updates from the field, mainly because they’re freelancers. We’re trying to get them involved more, but right now it requires them to call our office with updates and then have the Editors post them. Editors don’t get into the office until early evening, so that wasn’t going to work.

So, on days like these, we rely on fans to post their updates via Twitter. Most fans wanted to see New Canaan-St. Joseph, unfortunately. I understand your frustration, I wish I had more updates, too. …But there’s not much we can do right now.

  5. I too was impressed with NC’s play

I will say this: I saw them play earlier this year and they are definitely down a bunch of players who were around in the beginning of the year. saw that tackle walking around on crutches. to go from a 270 lb guy to a 180 lb guy at OT is gonna hurt a little but

NC’s D is solid but very beatable

As for any team having the DBs to hold NC’s offense in check, I’d like to see it – have not seen this in a few yrs. the weather is about the only thing that has held that offense back

    It’s just a matchup nightmare

Nice win for NC but they have their work cut out for them now. still have to beat a Greenwich team with a chip on their shoulder and a rejuvenated Central team

Nothing is even close to decided in the FCIAC

  6. Pompy has the D-backs to play NC and the run game to win. Too bad it won’t happen. Baty will give all teams fits, though. No QB controversy at NC, just some good public relations management by the coaching staff. Baty is the real deal.

  7. Baty is the real deal – but i am not sure that offense is as efficient as it’s been in yrs past – in the spread, the efficiency of the offense is a direct correlation to how long the qb has been working in it

  8. When those really big games come up at the end of the season, I’ll still put my money on New Canaan, even though I am not a big NC fan…you not only have to beat their players, but you have to outcoach them as well. NC had what, two or three 4th and longs yesterday and they went for it and got it — with receivers wide open on the two I remember. If they are both “on”, I think it would be a pretty interesting duel between Baty and Lefflbine…and even with their QB injured, the Staples staff is right on par with New Canaan’s…should be a great finish to the FCIAC season.

  9. East Lyme beat Ledyard yesterday, huge win for them. One big game left, at Fitch next week. Only loss was by one point to New London. Always a physical, tough team that may provide competition for NC in States.

  10. Just thinking, how will Baty a California kid handle the the bitter cold in December.

    Comment by tj — October 25th, 2009 @ 11:23 am

  11. Too much football left to be played. St. Joes has an excellent chance to win the state championship in their division if they qualify.

Central has one tough game left on their schedule–New Canaan.

Where the heck is JR the mailman? Greenwich losses and you never hear from him.

How on earth did Stamford beat Trumbull? McMahon beat Stamford

Prince Tech might keep Cromwell or Ansonia from making the state tournament.

  12. the RB (44) from St Joe’s is the real deal. He’s listed at 190 but he’s got to be 215 – and he’s a Jr – very good player

    Comment by fan — October 26th, 2009 @ 9:02 am

  13. after watching the game st. joes played against NC they are a very good football team. They may not lose another game all season as long as they dont let this past game affect them too much. they have three line backers that are the real deal and can really play great football. NC’s passing attack is just too much for any team, st. joes blitzed them all day and the NC oline picked up everything except when baty rolled out of the pocket on those boot plays.

  14. New canaan would beat East Lyme by 40 pts.

    Comment by Mike 125 — October 26th, 2009 @ 2:57 pm

  15. Mike 125, how do you know NC would beat EL by 40 pts. Have you seen EL play this year?, or did you just look at your Magic eight ball? Do me a favor, go on your computer and google “Last team that beat NC in playoffs” ….Let me save you some time, EL came down and took it to the Rams, in NC. Now I’m not saying that EL is better than them this year, and there is still a lot of football left, but I guarantee you Coach Marinelli will be very curious about EL if they beat Fitch Friday night.
