As predicted, the remnants of Hurricane Ida has mucked with our schedule, with all kinds of games getting postponed to Saturday, Sunday, heck even Monday.
Yeah. I know. It’s football. What’s the big deal?
That’s the way it is nowadays, especially for those teams who don’t have turf fields (don’t ask me what’s up with Shelton or West Haven or most of the NVL. Masuk’s Benedict Field is so bad, coach John Murphy said yesterday his team will be playing at a neutral site if they reach the state playoffs.
It’s so bad, Masuk’s now giving a home game to arch-rival Bunnell. (Nobody can accuse Masuk of backing down, btw. They truly will play anybody, anywhere.)
But, as far as we know the biggies are still on in the FCIAC: St. Joseph at Greenwich, Staples at Trumbull and New Canaan at Central.
We’ll be out and about, trying to get you updates from these and all of the other regional games we’re covering. Of course, as you all should know by now: We can’t be everywhere. We need your help.
So, here’s the drill. If you are at a high school football game (preferably one we aren’t covering) and want to send updates it’s pretty simple if you have a mobile phone.
1. Get a Twitter account (go to Twitter.com).
2. “Tweet” scoring updates (not play-by-play) from your game.
3. Add the following at the end of your tweet: #ctfb.
4. Send your tweet and it will show up on the live blog.
If you have internet capabilities from your phone, great. But you can also tweet using text message. Just go to “settings” and then hit the “mobile” tab on the Twitter webpage and give them your phone number. Then text your update to 40404 and it will show up.
I know. Lots to digest, but give it a try and you’ll find it’s pretty easy.
Now, let’s get down to brass tax for Week 9:
Here’s your CIAC scoreboard, you can check for postponements and finals here
Here are all the radio/internet broadcasts for Friday night (if the updates aren’t showing up below, be our guest and Tweet what you hear on the internet).

ray brown now announces central as the best team in the fciac

You mean to tell me that Central beats NC and Greenwich and wont play for fciac title….If that’s true something is terribly wrong
Comment by Jack m. — November 13th, 2009 @ 9:12 pm
WOW! Who’s #1 next week in all the polls?
Comment by MasukRules — November 13th, 2009 @ 9:38 pm
I can’t see Staples beating Central…The Hilltoppers seem to be peaking right now, and I don’t think Staples played a really tough schedule…Central has beaten the boys from Greenwich, and New Canaan…They should have no problem making it a hat trick with a Win over Westport…It would be a great story, and great for the City of Bridgeport, which could really use something to cheer about these days…

Anyone know time and place of postponed MASUK game tomorrow?
Comment by David Schulz — November 13th, 2009 @ 10:22 pm
Central OWNED NC tonight – not sure NC even had a chance in fair weather
The NC D finally gave in (after springing some major leaks last week)
Will be fun to see Central/Staples
The one thing i will say is don’t underestimate the Staples D – Central opened up tonight on a sub par D
Will NC miss states if they lose to Darien
Makes for some intrigue on Turkey Day

i see all the new central riders now-welcome to the wave

hopefully staples is z31,thenc entral has a chance to knock off back to back #1s.the speed did ncanaan in,and my prediction is it will do staples in-but be much much closer, probably low scoring as well.dont be surprised to see staples lose back to back games.

Well well well. Where to start. First off congratulations to Central on their win tonight. My only gripe is that Staples wasn’t the ones who could spoil NC’s season next weak – and believe me they would have.
Central exposed what I posted weeks ago was an good but one dimensional team. They have a great passing attack, but average running game and defense, and no special teams. If you take away the passing attack either with inclement weather, a good defense, or both they were in trouble. NC was a much better “team” last year because they had a defense they could rely on to carry them through tough games like this.
Any way, all the hype about NC and the rankings this year is what happens when you pray at the alter of a program and don’t look objectively at what is happening on the field. That goes for their fans and certain members of the press.
Staples / Central will be a great game. You have the BEST two teams in the FCIAC playing for the championship.
Prophet, enjoy the rest of the season and the class MM playoffs. Don’t look past Darien though – especially if the weather doesn’t cooperate on Thanksgiving.

Watch out folks. If anyone hasn’t noticed I see a match up at some point between the sounthern end of CT Football and the north.
Comment by Football Bob — November 14th, 2009 @ 5:58 am
Could Brian or someone who knows these things go through the Class L possibilities? Assuming the top 3 spots are locked up, it is really ND-WH and Simsbury fighting it out for the last spot. What happens if they both win on Thanksgiving? Both lose?
Comment by roto — November 14th, 2009 @ 8:42 am
jackm————central beat both–the best team should play for title——–whats wrong?
Comment by ray brown — November 14th, 2009 @ 11:38 am
Is Masuk at Bunnell tonight? How are they going to pull that one off? It should still be at Masuk.
Comment by MasukRules — November 14th, 2009 @ 12:32 pm
Conard’s win pretty much guarantees there will be three unbeaten teams in Class L. So, yes, it’s probably going to come down to Simsbury and NDWH.
Comment by Sean Patrick Bowley — November 14th, 2009 @ 1:50 pm
I know it comes down to ND-WH and Simsbury, and if one wins and the other loses on Thanksgiving, the winner is in. I was just wondering if anyone has crunched the numbers under different likely scenarios if both win or both lose.
