Yawn… Is it Saturday afternoon already?
Welcome back to the live scoring blog for Saturday, Week 9. It’s still rainy, rainy, rainy out there. We already have one postponement before kicking off this afternoon’s games. Xavier at West Haven, a crucial Class LL game which was supposed to go off at 7, is now Sunday at 2.
Check all the results on our live blog below (most of the games will start to trickle in toward the late afternoon, early evening). Then click here for the CIAC’s football playoff standings page to see how the results have impacted your team.
You can also check out other postponements and schedules on the CIAC’s scoreboard page here
By the way: The FCIAC has announced that its championship game will be played at Trumbull, and not Wilton, next Friday.

Sean, Thanks for the info about the switch in venue for the Championship game…That could be important…It would seem to make it a more favorable site for Central, rather than the other way around in Wilton…That makes it much easier for Central fans to get to the game…They (Central) still have to drum up more support from Bridgeport residents at large…They have to get the word out that they have something special going on, and could really use a great turnout…
I’m in Monroe, on the Trumbull border…I can just about walk to the game, so this is great news for me…I’m an old GHS alum, but we’re out of it, and I’ve quickly become a temporary fan of Central…I’d love to see them take it all the way through the states…It would be great for the City of Bridgeport, which really could use the love these days…

I cant even imagine the Bunnell Masuk score if there was no 50 point rule…its 49-6 in the third quarter.

I see Mark Harrison and Marcus Easley were on the scoring blog earlier. We’re proud of you both, keep up the good work.

I wish people would reserve to comment about who is going to win the FCIAC title without even seeing both teams play. Staples has the same players no matter the schedule they played this year. They’re nasty, anyone who has actually watched them play would agree. That being said I have not seen Central so I will not make a prediction on the game, however I can tell you that Central will not run on Staples like they did on New Canaan.

Sean…I’m up late as usual on a Saturday night, and I was going through your Saturday online scoring update deal posts, which kind of turned into a football team turf war…lol…Anyway, I wrote down how you said the bonus points work, trying to figure out how this whole cock-eyed point system works for both the conference championship game matchups in each “class” are determined, as well as the four overall State championship teams (in each class size) are determined…Believe me, it can really make your brain hurt, as I’m sure you know all too well…
Anyway, while browsing around at the latest standings & point totals for various class sized schools, I noticed that this system is really flawed, especially when it comes to bonus points given out…Unless I’m missing something (and it is late) then it needs some tweeking, if it stays in this form…I like your idea posted a few days ago, but even with that more major revamp the bonus point thing is still not solved…
First of all, I think they should condense the current 6 classes down to 4…I assume they are based on student body size, so just adjust that to get it down to 4…Like XL (extra large), L, M, and S…Then, just as you pointed out that as an S or SS team who beats an LL team gets an extra 20 bonus points for each of that LL team’s victories (instead of the usual 10), then it should really also work in reverse…If you beat a smaller school then you get your 100 for the victory, and add the standard 10 bonus points for each of their victories less 5 points per win for each class lower than you are (in my world of 4 classes a subtraction of a maximum of 15 points per victory of the “underclass” you just hammered)…This way if an XL team beat up on an S team, they could actually end up with less than 100 points for the win…If they beat up an M team it would be a wash, and if they beat an L team, they would only get a net 5 bonus points for each of their opponents victories…Only if an XL beat another XL would they get the total 10 bonus points…And if an “upperclass” team lost to an “underclass” team they would actually get points subtracted from their cumulative total by how many points the underclass gained by beating you…If you can follow that, I think it would even things out, certainly schedule wise, and, at the same time possibly give a chance for what I’d like to see…A 32 team State title “Big Dance” bracket, involving all sized schools…I don’t know how schedules are determined before the season starts…Random?, Traditional rivalries?, Coach’s input?, potential $’s generated by certain projected matchups?, or a combination of all?…I don’t know…Maybe you do…
I’ll take Conard for example…Under the current system they are ranked 3rd in class L, yet they have beaten 4 Class LL teams, and 4 Class L teams, and 1 SS team…Yet they are behind Masuk (#1) who has played, and beaten 2 class S teams, 2 class SS teams, 4 class M teams, and 1 class MM team…They have yet to play a team of even their same size, and yet they are ahead of Conard who has obviously played the much harder schedule…Pomperaug’s schedule strength is basically the same as Masuk’s, and they are also ahead of Conard…I only use Class L as an example, but all the Classes (LL down thru S) have some of the same scenerios going on under the current system…
I’ll hit the sack now…I’ve got to work on the house tomorrow…LOL

If both NDWH and Simsbury win, I don’t see NDWH catching up on bonus point. Though a quick look, Simsbury doesn’t have any guaranteed bonus points while NDWH has one automatic win. This means there will be a large range between the min and max potential points.
If they both win and Masuk loses to Newtown, Masuk would be most likely out of the playoffs! (assuming Conard beats a two win Hall team). Could very well happen, Newtown well rested while Masuk beat up from the SWC champ game.
Oddly enough, NDWH may have a better shot if both they and Sims lose. Though this would bring Windsor and Fitch into the scene.
If all four end up with two losses, it looks like Windsor would have a good shot of jumping over Simsbury and NDWH and nabbing the fourth spot.
Looking forward to everyone’s calculations and combinations of the various playoff races.

ghsgrandpa, you are right. Teams should at least try to play schools their own size. The system is flawed. If there is not of enough teams your size in your league then go out and play out of league games. enough all ready of schools like Masuk whipping up on smaller schools. I am tired of it. There record is so deceiving.

masuk was whooping the same teams when they were a MM school. Shouldnt Newtown be running the show if your theory is correct? And please stop with the CCC talk. There are 50 teams and Gbury is the only one that would make a run in Southern CT.
