More coaching moves: DiCenso out at Derby

Derby announced a head coaching vacancy for its football program today on the CIAC website, ending the tenure of Carmen DiCenso who had presided over the program since 2004. DiCenso was 20-41 at Derby, which became a co-op with O’Brien Tech in 2007.

DiCenso was one of the school’s most outspoken critics of its membership in the SCC. He helped lobby for a move to the Naugatuck Valley League. Derby made the switch earlier this year and went 4-6 in its inaugural season.

We’ll have more on this development later.

Derby/O’Brien Tech’s vacancy is the fifth of the region. Fairfield Prep, McMahon, Stratford and New Fairfield are the others.

  1. Derby should look right in their own building. Andy Guyon (DC at Xavier) who is a teacher at Derby would be a great choice to take over the football program!

  4. Derby had a chance to hire Coach Guyon a while back and hesitated. Big mistake by them. He is a quality Coach and an even better person. They would be lucky to get someone of his ilk.

  5. Guyon would be a great choice. After this season, it would be hard for Xavier to let him go. Great job with their D and kept opponents on their toes with his blitzs. Derby HAD the chance and let him slip away. Derby’s loss was Xavier play-off gain.

  6. Well, who would want the job? Derby is living in Disney as they think they will ever be successful again….It is a different type of kid there now….Let us all be realistic….Andy would be a great choice but in he is in the building and he know what they have. I know being a head coach is everyones dream but is it the right place…Maybe the next guy will make them actually play football on T-Giving too………..
