Connecticut Post All-Star Football team published Jan. 1

by:

The sports editorial staff has decided to publish our all-star football team on New Years day. We want to do it right, over all the Hearst Connecticut Newspapers, so we felt this was the perfect time.

The team is selected and we’re in the process of putting it together. Thanks in advance for your patience. -sp

I think this is a wonderful idea..I’m sure that the kids will be thrilled!!! Will there photos be published as well?

  2. New Haven County says:

i just read the registers all state team and that is weak. That all state MVP might not even have made all state team last year. Are you kidding me. All white kids too. Thats horrible. That team SUCKS. What a down year for Connecticut football. All kids from chesire and stuff. give me a break ugh what has this state come to in football. Bowley please pick a better team than the schmucks i saw

  3. We don’t do all-state, so…

  4. footballfan09 says:

Did new haven county really write “all white kids” you have to be kidding me,take your prejudice somewhere else, the kids who read this dont need to see that kind of crap. Shame on you Bowley for leaving that up. What does this idiot think that it was some kind of race conspiracy?

  5. Fight says:

…. “all white kids too. that’s horrible”
    … wow.

  6. HSfan says:

    Sean,
Have you heard anything about the McMahon coaching job?
Heard that Cochran might be applying.
Good luck with your all star team — I’m sure it will be fair

  7. ConnFan says:

Is this going to be the best players or the best teams players? IE Masuk,Pompy? Who votes on this and have they seen all the players play or have you?

  8. New Haven County says:

lol, that all state teams terrible

  9. GetSome says:

I dont think it’s a race conspiracy, I think he’s right. When the running backs on the all state team are a bunch of little white kids thats how you know football in CT is bad

  10. Dawn says:

    Sean,

Can you please correct my sons name. He is under CLASS S Killingly High School RB. His name is spelled wrong. His name is spelled Anthoney with the ā€œeā€ at the end.

    Thank you,
    Dawn

  11. old Dawg says:

can’t wait to see the selections! but shame on that “all white kids” comment!!!

  12. footballfan09 says:

I have news for you haters. the BEST RB in the state(other then the Redd kid at Kings) was a “white kid” named Crick from Pomperaug. Even the ND-WH coach is on record as saying he was the best they played against or saw all year. What a shame a few bad apples have to spoil everything with the “race card”. Shameful

  13. rrrrr says:

dont shrug just take that post down.

  14. Not going to do that. It’s his opinion. I don’t agree with it, but it’s within the bounds. Besides, it’s healthy to see where some people’s heads are.

  15. Shelton Fan says:

Pretty good picks for your all star team. Except for at QB. Baty, Dellavechia, both all state, both state champs, comparable stats to Cochran, against better comp, Less attempts, and they are’nt first team ? Glaring ommission – QB Goldrich from NDWH, better stats than all the other QBs, better comp, and state champ. ALL Star QBs should have been first team Baty ( did’nt start first few games ), second team Goldrich, honorable mention Dellavechia, Lefflbine, and throw in Cochran if you want to continue to insist on hyping him up.

  16. Donald C says:

SPB……….I just want to say, Happy New Year! Thanks for all of your hard work you do! Best Wishes for 2010!! Keep up the good work!!!

  17. tarheels28 says:

FRANK GUARDI AND BOBBY WOOD RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. footballfan09 says:

good job on the picks, but i do agree with “Shelton Fan” Cochran is good but I think DellaVecchia deserved it his team won a state title and his stats are better then Cochrans. JDV has a .642 comp % to JC’s .604. JDV has 28 td passes to JC’s 26, and JDV has 6 less int’s,I dont understand why you’d vote for a QB whose team didnt even win his league championship vs a QB who won a state championship?

  19. art brown says:

silas redd best back in years and the other back at king is right up there with him no fciac teams would have stopped them so much for the all state teams no more to discuss!

  20. Big Guy says:

SPB – It was nicer when the Post mentioned where the players were planning on going to school next year.

Maybe you could do a follow up down the road.

  21. Fight says:

I dig the the all star team. Well done.

  22. joe says:

Hancock resigns at Immaculate high school football…today

  23. Donald C says:

SPB……..I told you that there would be more football coaches leaving….With only 1 win this year, IHS…Hancock leaves. About 3 weeks ago, I told you he would leave. IHS just does not have the kids to put out a winning football program.

  24. Lavender says:

SPB, is the team available online? I can’t find it on ctpost.com’s super user friendly website.

  25. DDD says:

Congrats Don. You predicted another coach would be leaving. I predict the team that scores the most points in the Lakers game tonight will win the game.

  26. Give me a break, we’re working on it. By the time I’m done with sports, it’ll be so super user-friendly you’ll be sending me cookies and a thank you note.

I’ll find somewhere to put the team, but for now you can search for it on the site.

  27. Donald C says:

DDD…It sounds like you may be a little upset??? In high school sports, when a coach knows he will not have the talent to have a winning team in the coming years, they leave. Who wants to coach a team(any team, any sport) if you don’t have the talent, or players? It’s very hard to do. Lakers lost last night, but they are still the best team in the NBA…………

  28. Donald C says:

SPB….It looks like Harding and Bassick are going to be in the mix with Central. In the coming weeks, things will start to take shape.
We will see, who really is the better of the teams in Bpt. I like C.Bentley, but I am still staying with Central and Barry M.

  29. fciacfootballfan says:

Donald — that’s exactly why some teams will always struggle — there are a lot of guys who can coach good players…those that can build a PROGRAM and keep the talent coming are the ones that are getting hard to find, for a lot of reasons — frustration, lack of support from parents or administration, poor quality of feeder programs, that kind of thing. The “win now” mentality does not lend itself to building a program. Think of those programs that are successful year in and year out — New Canaan, Staples, Masuk, Greenwich — great teams, yes, but also great programs in place, too.

  30. Donald C says:

fciacfootballfan..I agree with you! But with some of these small schools…example IHS of Danbury football…they just do not have the kids to put out a winning team. Look at Bethel, they have always been good in baseball, but everything other sport(football was good this year) has not been good. Bethel has been good in baseball, because they have always had good pitching. Look at DHS…it’s one of the biggest schools in the state….they did not do to good in football this year, and there basketball team just won its 3rd game of the year. I agree that you need a good feeder program to be good in the future. Look at DHS….wrestling..why are they so good, because they have a “GREAT” feeder program. Here in Bpt. basketball teams will always be good, because kids play 24/7 and they are good. Also, I heard of some really good kids, that don’t go out for a sport that they are good in, because of the coach. You have some coaches that have there click, so to speak……they will take a kid that they like, over a kid that is better. I been around sports a long time and I have seen this often…….

  31. Scott55 says:

SPB, was wondering if you could do me a favor. What’s your email, i got a question i gotta ask ya. Just want to know if you still have any film from the 07 year. Please get back ASAP. Thanks

  32. coach88 says:

Has anyone heard who might have a leg up for the Prep varsity football job?

  33. No Axe To Grind says:

Much to my shock, I have heard that Murphy from Masuk is the leading contender for the Prep Job. I’m surprised because he doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy that Harris, the AD at Prep, would like as a coach. He likes low key guys that don’t over shadow the program. You never hear anything about Sather with the Hockey Team or Smalkis with the Lacrosse team and they are constantly winning State Championship after State Championship. Dont get me wrong, Murphy is a great coach, one of the top 3 or 4 in the state and he will win at Prep, but still a surprise to me.

I know that Murphy wants out of Masuk because he divided the team this year with the whole Cochran mess. 13 Seniors quit before the season started and he went with a really young line up to build for the next couple of years. But now it looks like Cochran Sr. is taking the McMahon job and you know Casey is going with him. He tore apart a team despite the fact that he had a really good Sophmore Quarterback in Chacho. I’m sure that kids confidence is shaken and who knows if he bounces back after being passed over and not playing all year. Masuk could be a train wreck next year.

  34. coach88 says:

Was anyone aware that the Xavier Freshmen teams the last two years were a combined 20-0-1. Is that a sign of good things to come or was it that the other freshmen programs just weren’t that good?

  35. fciacfootballfan says:

I don’t think Harris is the AD at Prep anymore…

  36. Monroe says:

No Axe to Grind……..Masuk will be just fine

  37. In the know says:

Ok Axe to grind, you have no idea what you are talking about. I know for a FACT coach Murphy is 100% not interested in the Prep job. Stop making up things just to start BS rumors. This torn apart team you are talking about has 70 kids in the weight room EVERY day. Coach Murph and his staff are there everyday. Train wreck, more like locomotive.

  38. masuk parent says:

To, No axe to grind, It does’nt matter if Murphy leaves, the J.V. or Freshman coach could step right in and Masuk would’nt miss a beat. It does’nt matter if Cochran leaves, Chacho would take over, and Masuk would’nt miss a beat. You don’t seem to understand that the AYF ( Baccarrella, Christie )coaches, and the past Pop Warner coaches ( Perimenis ) in Monroe were excellent, and prepared the kids for Masuk by Playing the Masuk offense and defense. The kids are ready when they get to Masuk. Train wreck ? No ! Maybe better off without them.

  39. spartans97 says:

I am pretty certain Coach Murphy is not in the running for the Prep job. Anytime there is a local job open everybody always mentions Coach Murphy. Great coaches are always get mentioned when jobs open up….and Donahue is the A.D. at Prep, not Harris…Harris retired…

  40. pathetic says:

masuk parents stay off this site. you think feeding these RUMORS will help your kids?

  41. ghsgrandpa says:

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I’ve heard (no lie) Bill Parcells, Bill Cohwer, Knute Rockne, and Casey Stengel…But that could just be rumor…

  42. definite axe to grind says:

    No Axe to Grind,

You obviously do have an axe to grind. You are full of nonsense. So funny how people cannot stop talking about this team. This coming year will be exciting for this maturing program.

  43. No Axe To Grind says:

    Gentleman,

I am in no way trying to start rumors. I heard that Murphy inquired about the Prep job from a guy that I know involved with Monroe’s AYF program. Thats it, not trying to stir up trouble. And, just so you know, I know, Lenny, Scott and Rory very well and consider them friends. All great guys and great coaches, none of them are in Murphy’s league as a coach. There is a big difference between Youth and High School sports. I’m know that they would tell you the same thing if asked, we’ve talked about it in the past.

Although I am from Texas, and have only been up North for 9 years now and live in Shelton, I do root for Masuk. I love the way that they play and the disipline that they show on the field. I am a huge Murphy fan and said that in my post. But he is not immune to critisism and he made some mistakes last year. I am certain that none of you Masuk fans will deny that 13 kids quit in the wake of the Cochran mess before the start of the season and that there was not division in the locker room. If you are not willing to acknowledge that, well then you are just lying to yourself or not paying attention, or just have no idea what you are talking about. Those are all facts.

I was simply trying to answer a question that was asked by coach88. I wrote what I heard. I trust that the information that I had was correct at the time. And that was simply: Murphy inquired about the Prep job. I never said that he was going to be the coach or leave Masuk.

And please reread the post, it says “Masuk COULD be a train wreck next year”. Not that they will be. Murphy is GREAT coach, he could win with no talent, never mind the fact that he has a mountain of it.

  44. footballfan09 says:

If there is 70 kids in the weightroom then there is alot of standing around, unless they are using Uconns weightroom and facilities (haha). It’s my understanding that they already have someone in mind for the Prep job and it isnt Murphy. I dont think Murphy would leave Masuk for Prep anyway, and Cochran hasnt even been mentioned by anyone for any jobs in the “state” ;)

  45. justsayingwhatIheard says:

    No Axe,
If I heard you molest german shepards, should I post it? Also, you have proven that you are NOT in touch with this program because you seem to think that:

“13 kids quit in the wake of the Cochran mess before the start of the season and that there was not division in the locker room. If you are not willing to acknowledge that, well then you are just lying to yourself or not paying attention, or just have no idea what you are talking about.”

You really think 13 kids would quit because one of the states best QB’s comes aboard? (the nicest kid by the way) Kids quit because they were not starting and mommy and daddy told them they were the best. Go back to gossiping with the AYF coaches but please do not tell me I am lying to myself.

  46. just wondering says:

Coach Shea the current freshman coach will be the new head coach. He should have been last year.

  47. Clyde says:

Fairfield Prep aint hiring a St.Joes grad(Murphy), the inquiry was short lived,I am sure…

    Clyde

  48. masuk alumni says:

How could Masuk be a train wreck next year ? A lot of returning players, and 2 of the best coaches in the state in Murph and Jack Cochran ?

  49. Monroe says:

No Axe- you can’t know the Monroe coaches very well because it is Steve not Scott.

  50. dds says:

    Good job by Just Wondering

  51. No Axe To Grind says:

LOL….Monroe….All of that has been written and your two brilliant observations have been: “Masuk will be just fine” and “Steve not Scott”….Wow, thanks for the input! Your right, I don’t know them that well….I confused Christy with Charney….Lenny’s assistant coach at AYF. I don’t know Steve personally like I do Rory and Lenny. My mistake…..LOL. What a yutz! Again, thanks for your input.

  52. right says:

Well I am glad you know so much about the youth program (or think you do because you know a coach). Make comments about them next time, not Masuk. Don’t make an donkey statement like

“I am certain that none of you Masuk fans will deny that 13 kids quit in the wake of the Cochran mess before the start of the season and that there was not division in the locker room. If you are not willing to acknowledge that, well then you are just lying to yourself or not paying attention, or just have no idea what you are talking about. Those are all facts.”

have you ever set foot in the locker room? Doubt it. Don’t talk about facts when you had Murph going to prep, Cochran and Casey going to Mcmahon, and Masuk being a train wreck next year. WRONG WRONG WRONG.

  53. Masuk17 says:

    No Axe to Grind
I have been waiting since Jan 13 to respond to your ridiculous posting of “…Masuk could be in for a train wreck…” Well, glad to say it was the most exciting train wreck this team has ever been on! STATE CHAMPS!!!!!!!
Please post some other negative remarks this year, we are always up for a good challenge to prove all you Masuk Haters wrong.
