Ridgefield High School football tackle Tommy Jordan during practice. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009

Tommy Jordan has a new first name.

Florida-bound.

The Ridgefield football tackle has committed to the University of Florida, said a brief statement from the high school today.

The Gators were Jordan’s first official offer last summer and, after varying degrees of courtship by Notre Dame, Rutgers, Penn State, Boston College, Syracuse and Duke, he’s decided to stick with the Gators. defending BCS champions.

Jordan’s quite a catch: 6-foot-5, 295-pound, first-team all-state, Connecticut Post All-Star, Walter Camp Team, Connecticut State Lineman of the Year, first-team All-FCIAC and FCIAC Player of the Year. He has also been nominated for the Army All-American Bowl.

We’ll have much, much, much more on Tom’s decision in the coming days and months.

Congratulations. Very exciting to see 2 linemen from the FCIAC, Tommy and Conor Hanratty, going to big time programs like Florida and Notre Dame. Add Ducasse, Easley, Forte, Brown, Cochran and Harrison to the mix and fairfield county should be a must stop for BCS school recruiters.

Florida is a great program but Bama is the defending BCS champion!! This kid should be proud of himself but I would not have chose Florida. I would have a chose another top program that is not as deep as Florida. IT will be tough on him to see the field. In any event, good luck big fella.
