(Offensive) Videos from the Connecticut-Rhode Island Governor’s Cup football game

I know defense was the soup du jour at the 12th Governor’s Cup All-Star football game Saturday at UConn’s Rentschler Field.

Team Connecticut picked off seven passes and Rhode Island picked off four and recovered a fumble. That was basically the story in Connecticut’s 29-7 victory.

But the offenses had to do something to win the game, right?

With what I had to work with on the sidelines … ehhhh, the interceptions don’t look so good on my modest little video camera (no worries, I’m bringing out the big guns for August-December).

But I did manage to capture all of the scoring plays and they look pretty good.

So here’s the scoring recap for Team Connecticut (and, for any Rhode Island fans out there).

Attention New Fairfield and Pomperaug fans: plenty for you in this one.

Check it out below:

FIRST QUARTER

New Fairfield’s Bobby Wood throws a 48-yard touchdown to Orlando Gaspar on a double-reverse option. CONNECTICUT 6, RHODE ISLAND 0, 6:00

Pomperaug’s Ben Crick grabs a 23-yard screen-pass touchdown from Bloomfield’s Denzel Jones: CONNECTICUT 12, RHODE ISLAND 0, 2:25

THIRD QUARTER

Rhode Island’s Mike Read scores on a 1-yard run late in the third quarter CONNECTICUT 15, RHODE ISLAND 7, 4:40

FOURTH QUARTER

Xavier’s Julian Hayes catches an 8-yard screen pass touchdown from Bobby Wood CONNECTICUT 22, RHODE ISLAND 7, 7:40

Hayes scores again, this time on a 1-yard touchdown run with 0:52 seconds left in the game. CONNECTICUT 29, RHODE ISLAND 7 (FINAL)

And that’s it, folks.

See everyone at the Hall of Fame Football Classic in two weeks.
