Week 2! Friday Night Primer and Live Updates

by:

Good afternoon! Ready or not, Week 2 is upon us.

It’s not exactly a whopper of a schedule, outside of a battle between upstart Norwalk and mainstay Staples, and the SWC grudge match between Pomperaug and Masuk in Southbury.

First off, it’s SCC Crossover week (guh). We’ve illustrated the vast disparity between the league’s two divisions plenty of times over the years, so it’s not even worth dissecting anymore. These games are traditionally mismatches. Yes, it is a down year for SCC 1, and a markedly up year for SCC 2. So it’s possible we’ll see the SCC2 take home more than its usual, obligatory one victory.

Foran at Xavier? I love Foran’s team, but they’re thin up front and decidedly smaller than the state’s No. 1 ranked team. Branford at NDWH, almost the same thing. Only Cheshire-Hillhouse and maybe Lyman Hall-Hand hold any real intrigue. And North Haven has a shot at bringing home an SCC2 victory.

But, like many of my colleagues, I’m just praying the  SCC2 teams get home safe and sound so they can resume their real seasons.

The SWC’s schedule is a bit better. Bunnell-Barlow’s OK. Bethel-Newtown has some potential. Oxford-New Fairfield, maybe… The FCIAC is so-so. New Canaan-Trinity is mildly intriguing. So is St. Joseph-Wilton. …In the NVL, Ansonia-Crosby in isn’t bad, either. As is Derby/O’Brien Tech-Sacred Heart.

But overall, it’s not a week that packs much punch.

Anyway, here’s the quick run down on Week 2, and then the Live Update Blog is below. We get started with Cross-Law at 4 p.m. and go deep into the night.
