Congratulations to all of the players, especially Montrell Dobbs.

I’ve watched Montrell turn into a monster on the football field over the past three years. My first time watching Dobbs make great runs was when he wore #20. He’s been such a pleasure to watch here in Ansonia. What a warrior. He will be missed.

Where is NFA’s Matthew Digby? Walter Camp All-Connecticut, Coaches All-State and New Haven Register All-State? Please. Oh, that is right, they play football on the East side.

  7. trueblue says:

    Hey Monte,

You do realize this team is drawn from the CT Post’s circulation area, right?

I’m sure Sean will tell you it doesn’t stretch quite to Norwich. Maybe in a few years as the empire expands.

  8. Sunday Sauce says:

    Sean,

Great addition with Joe Diaz on first team. Missed on Schullman not making the team and not even an honorable mention of the ILB from Masuk.

  10. What!!! says:

Not sure anyone cares but Ray Brown(real name Carl)never won a state championship for Ansonia(Played on a few 7-3 teams). He got called out on the NVL Blog BAD!!! He talks that he won all these rings at Ansonia and never won any. LOL! LOL! LOL! I guess when you lie to yourself for that long it actually becomes true

Here is CoY John Murphy on Jack Cochran’s impact on the Masuk Panthers:

We had what we thought was a great summer lifting and conditioning program. What we had was kids just going through drills, the “Program” and Jack Cochran initiated a whole new regimen working on speed, agility and conditioning.  His program turned each drill and each day into a competitive situation. Our kids stop thinking about conditioning and started competing against each other. It was our best summer ever.
The “Program’s” winter lifting program was intense, precise and thorough. It came with individual lifting cards and the corresponding charts to follow.  It was the best lifting program I’ve seen in 20 plus years of coaching. Our kids have never made the gains like they did on this program. We trained hard and we trained for football.
Maximizing your practice time maybe the most important thing in high school football. The “Program” helped us eliminate down time and maximize quality reps as it organized our practice time to the fullest.
    John Murphy
    Head Football Coach
    Masuk High School, Connecticut

Winter lifting. Summer conditioning. Organizing practice time. Yep, sounds like Coach Murphy learned a thing or two from Cochran. Nothing wrong with that.

This testimonial and others can be found at Cochran’s website
    http://www.theprogram1.com/
In addition to his consulting work, it’s remarkable to me how many of the states top players have been in some manner working with him in the offseason.

    @FauxRealism
Good post.Almost exactly like I have stated on this blog before.Masuk has had very good Football teams in the past. This year there was something a little different and special to it.It had an eery feeling about it.I honestly thought it was the Jack Cochran influence.I would like to see Cochran work his magic on a team like Easr Hartford.

  13. CCC says:

Of course, and Masuk also learned a whole lot about Defense in the last 2 years from Coach Cochran. Nice recruiting move by Murphy.

  14. Dave J says:

Really don’t mean this to pick on anyone, but does anyone else think that Hanratty’s picture looks just like Belushi in the early SNL days?

  15. @Dave J – HAHAHAHAHA. My girlfriend said the same thing.

  16. titletown says:

check out a site that gives updated stats from CT kids from college to pros http://ctstuds.blogspot.com/

  17. Eye on CT Football says:

If Jack Cochran ever got the East Hartford job it would be the best thing to come to East Hartford since Rentschler Field. Jack, would work his magic both in the classroom and on the field. Bringing instant crediability, commuitment, and conditioning to school desperatley in need of such qualities. With all that would come the trade off of the circus like atmosphere that often surrounds Cochran’s teams.

  18. ray brown says:

whatt!!! anyone that knows me knows where those rings came from—-never stated football lollollol

  19. HSfoot says:

It must be nice to have the best player in CT and probally one of the best coaches in the state fall into your lap and your program………..not only that but a coach that isnt offfically on your staff so he can practice with your team in the offseason…….

  20. Titletown says:

Guys get over yourselves already. If I were a football player in CT I wouldnt even be happy with a state championship win this year. Football was terrible. People from St. Joes are so happy with their team this year, like your team isnt that good. That team would get demolished by previous teams. That 06 holy cross team beats them by 40 and so does Ansonia. That team doesnt even match up to kenny tinney and company. Dobbs ran all over them with that line he has. are you serious what Tinney and Thomas would do to them. You catholic school people make me laugh. You got your championship but in all honesty CT football took a HUGE fall off. All these players on this all state team is a joke. Maybe 2 kids will go play D-1. puke

  21. football411 says:

Sacred Heart’s standout WR Dave Coggins has been rumored to be transfering to Pomperaug in Southbury. This comes from what I consider to be a creditable source. If this is true it will push an otherwise loaded Pomperaug team over the top in 2011.

  22. ap says:

just was a little curious about jacks son casey’ is he committed to boston college? there is a young quarterback depth chart in boston right now, and just signed a 6 3′ pro-style qb’ highly recruited out of chaminade prep (mo). christan suntrup 3 star ranking. chase rettig was the starter for bc 6 4 fr. didnt look good vs. nevada in televised bowl game. so does cochran go to bc. in compete? i know he’s competitive like his dad. hey paul pasualoni is in at UCONN any thought jack? that will be nice to see casey’ playing at the rent’ in front of his home state!! hav’nt had a good qb’ there since shelton’s dan orvolski

  23. NVL Fan says:

I agree with Titletown. FB was down. This was the worst year since 2006, when Ansonia won a title with completely waterdown competition. That was the softest Ansonia team in 2 decades – and they won a ring????

Valley football will be back as indicated by the fact that we hung in there with NC and St. Joes this year.

  24. Dave J says:

Hilarious that the Valley guys are still having a tough time coping. I thought by now they’d be through the anger and denial. Let’s not rehash, but (Ansonia aside for a minute), two years in a row the NVL Best (Naugy and Holy Cross – League Champs…) had shots at runner-up (at best) FCIAC teams and couldn’t get the job done. Now throw in Woodland this year and 2009 Holy Cross, and you must be beside yourselves- you can’t compete.

Back to Ansonia – you got the game you were waiting years for and found out that you weren’t as good as SJ – at all….I’m sure it stings almost as much as getting demolished by HYDE last year.

So you find yourselves thinking, what is Valley football, and who are the Ansonia Chargers? The answer is that Valley football is a great tradition in the Valley, but not quite as competetive as the rest of the state. And the answer is that Ansonia has for years been a big fish in a small pond, but, tradition aside, you’re just not that good.

  25. James says:

    Dave J –

You’re not giving the NVL quite enough credit. Naugy gave the FCIAC’s BEST (not “runner-up, at best”) a hell of a game. 21-12, and competitive until late in the fourth quarter. Mud or not, that’s impressive. Daniel Hand, the SCC’s #2, got ripped apart a week later.

And I think most NVL fans made clear that this was not a vintage Ansonia team. Nevertheless, they did a good job against St. Joe’s (and let’s be clear, this was the most talented St. Joe’s squad in decades) and kept it relatively close throughout. And they produced the state’s best (or second best, some might argue, behind Macari) player.

  26. another fan says:

@24 The answer is, the answer is, the answer is….you seem to know so much about valley football you must realy be interested. Why? The answer is, the answer is, you must still be angry over what the Valley has done to you and your team/s. You had a good year get over it.

  27. omg says:

wat is this the ALL CRACKER TEAM

  28. James says:

    Sean –

Heard a rumor at the All-State Banquet that Jack Cochran has been sounded out for the Glastonbury job, and would take Casey with him. Any truth to this?

  29. JayV says:

Sean Goldrich of Notre Dame West Haven got an offer from the University of New Hampshire this week!

  30. ray brown says:

easy there dave j—you beat a ansonia team that had 21 first year starters, plus dobbs who ran all over the place. would love to see rematch next year, but it probably wont happen with st.joes 5 losses.the alex thomas teams would have beaten that st.joes team by 4 tds.back to the long draught davey.

  31. Dave J says:

Probably right Ray – as you know I am not an SJ guy. Just love to see the AHS reality slap.

  32. Captainobvious says:

Dave, We’ll see what transpires over the next two or three years in Ansonia. The reality is that even with a young team they still found a way to keep winning. Keep the hate coming!

  33. ray brown says:

what!!! ,i was asked how many rings i had. i responded two but really i dont live in the past .however i was fortunate enough to win one in 1994 vs. st.joes in hoops—then in baseball in 1991.thats two state championships—two rings.you may have still been in the closet back then but if you do the research youll get the answers you need.you sound like a clown.

  34. What!!! says:

Thanks Ray. Means a lot coming from a classy guy like you. Keep up the good work

  35. PUUUT!!! says:

Ray, Theres no bigger clown than u dude.
