Ridgefield High School football tackle Tommy Jordan during practice. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009
UPDATED, Jan. 31
Now is the time for all good high school football players to come to the aid of their college.
National Signing Day is Wednesday.
So, where’s everybody going?
Let’s start with what we know:
Ridgefield has announced that OL Tommy Jordan will sign with Florida, despite the coaching change at the school, in a morning press conference at the school.
We haven’t heard anything from New Canaan on a press conference for OL Conor Hanratty. But you can rest assured, he’s going to Notre Dame.
As for others…
We’re waiting on word from Central’s Christon Gill. The 2009 all-state QB/DB spent the past year honing his skills and academics at Avon Old Farms. Some major schools were in the running, but there have been no offers. He took an official to Penn State, but, according to the website Lions247, the school will not be offering. Gill also took a visit to Miami recently.
Update on Gill: Spoke to Christon just before noon today. He’s on his way to an official visit with Temple. UConn also paid him a visit at school recently, signifying they’re back in the mix. Gill, who has also taken official visits to Penn State and UMass, is also scheduled make an official visit to UMiami soon (players are allowed five official visits).
Gill said he likely will not sign anywhere on National Signing Day. “I’m taking my time,” he said. “I want to take all of my official visits.”
Sean McQuillan, a former all-state player at Glastonbury and Gill’s teammate at Avon Old Farms, remains committed to UConn.
Ansonia’s Montrell Dobbs will go the prep school route and attend Milford Academy.
Tyler Matakevich, the Connecticut Post’s 2010 Athlete of the Year, still hasn’t decided. (We incorrectly said he was going somewhere else earlier.)
The Hartford Courant is reporting that Xavier’s Graham Stewart has added Florida into the mix. The all-state linebacker had given a verbal to Boston College.
Update: Stewart has decommitted from BC, and cast his lot with Florida.
Berlin RB Max DeLorenzo is still committed to UConn. …Staples’ Pat Murray and Chris Coyne will be going to Yale. …Valley Regional TE Mitchell King is going to Penn. …Bethel OL Chris Valenti is committed to Harvard.
Nainy Bah, 6-0, 180-pound receiver from Morgan, is committed to play for Steve Addazio at Temple.
Notre Dame-Fairfield’s Kevin Harrigan will be signing at CCSU. Speaking of which, we’re told that former Ansonia all-stater and UConn lineman Erik Kuraczea will be transferring to CCSU as well. No official word yet. Kuraczea quit UConn at midseason last year.
Updates:
Notre Dame-WH QB Sean Goldrich will sign with New Hampshire.
St. Joseph RB/LB L.J. Hunt will be attending Yale.
Trumbull WR/DB Tom Pauciello will be attending Coastal Carolina.
Stratford DB Markey Desruissesux will be attending Lakawanna College.
From Dave Ruden: Trinity Catholic’s Shawn Robinson will attend CCSU. Darien’s Jake Weil will play at Marist. Teammate Peter McDonough will play at Cornell.
Anyway, we’ll have a full signing day list on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, where are you going? Throw me an email at sbowley@ctpost.com.

anything on Macari?
Word is Macari to Georgetown.
Merger from naugy will also attend milford academy.
Staples 2010 lineman Connor Bohling took the prep school route this year and will be attending Georgetown….also had an offer from Tulane.
Willie Maxen has given a verbal to CCSU as well
I heard that the Maxen boys will be attending CCSU
Sean Goldrich of Notre Dame West Haven verbally committed to the University of New Hampshire this week.
two staples players to yale? impressive
Rueben Berger is the RB/WR/DB from Naugy going to Milford Academy. I also believe he is a cousin of Ansonia’s Montrell Dobbs, also attending Milford Academy.
Any idea where Digby from NFA maybe going? I have heard tis the season for recruits to jump to other schools right before siging day.
I really like this site. By the way, do happen to know where NFA’s Matt Digby maybe going?
Peter McDonough from Darien going to Cornell.
Jake Weil From Darien going to Marist.
I will be very interested to see how Sean Goldrich does at the next level. It seems to me he maybe the QB out of CT with the most upside. His high school deficiencies seem to be somewhat based on mechanics, throwing off his back foot, etc. These deficiencies will be fixed with good coaching on the next level. His natural or God given abilities seem exceptional, for example: 1) size, a 6-3, 195 frame, he looks big when you see him in person, unlike a lot of high school athletes. His type of build you could easily see rounding out at around 6-4 225. 2) Speed, Sean runs 4.5 40 which makes him one of the fastest high school QB recruits in the nation. 3) Arm strength, Sean’s throw under duress at the end of the Xavier game 2009, as a 16 year old, was 65 yards in air … he can throw further than that, believe me. 4) Poise and leadership …. Sean as seen in his Junior year was always at his best at the end of the game with everything on the line. 5) Character, Sean’s Mother died unexpectedly when he was in the 7th grade, and Sean had to deal with all that entailed. Sean was able to maintain his high standards both on and off the field during this very difficult period of time. Also, you will never hear anybody, teammate or opponent have anything but positives to say about Sean. All that being said, I think New Hampshire made a great decision signing Sean, time will tell, but my money is on Sean.
Any word…
- Joe Della Vecchia (St. Joseph)
- Tyler Matakevich (St. Joseph)
- Charlie Kunze (Darien)
- Tucker Morehouse (Darien)
- Mike Rivas (Trinity Catholic)
- Phil Terio (Trumbull)
- Any of the Masuk seniors
I presume some – or most – of these names are going the D3 route, but would love to hear if they’ve made up their minds.
@Jayv
Agreed 100% percent with your post.Notre Dame’s coaching staff did not do a great job showcasing ALL of Sean’s ability.I stated previous to week #1 that they should not use Sean mainly as a pocket passer.I thought more rollouts should have been called which would have given Sean the option to run and utilize his speed.
Kunze will play at Middlebury. Don’t believe Morehouse is playing in college.
Staples Tyler Jacobs & Chet Pajolek to Amherst and Rob Gau to Trinity, and Julian Gendels to Union.
Brenden Rankowitz Staples 2010 – to Middlebury after prep year at Andover.
Good luck to all these kids in college – CT is being well represented in the NESCAC, Ivy and other great schools…
Anyone from West Haven going to Div.1 ? Didn’t they have a featured RB and an OL all stater?
