In just a few weeks, it’ll be time to get your summer’s football fix with the state’s two all star games.
First up, is the Rhode Island-Connecticut Governor’s Cup all-star game Saturday June 25 at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $8.
This year the game will be held at Southington High School’s Fontana Field — named after the former Southington coach and director of the Connecticut High School Coaches Association which puts this game together. The venue is moving to Southington from Rentschler Field in East Hartford because UConn is installing new grass turf.
Team Connecticut’s coach is Masuk’s John Murphy.
John Ferrazzi, Sheehan-Wallingford; Sean Marinan, Xavier; Harry Bellucci, Hartford Public; Jayson Martinez, Kingswood Oxford-West Hartford; Chuck Lynch, New Milford, Bruce Buchla, Old Saybrook; Andy Guyon, Xavier; Tyrone Abrahams, Windsor; and Jon Esmail, Hartford Public.
Rhode Island will be coached by Chariho’s Mike Kelly. Practices for this game begin 10 days prior.
The Connecticut roster is below. We’ll give you the roster and cheat sheet on Rhode Island a little later (i.e. when I have time to format it). If you want more info, read the Connecticut High School Coaches Association’s Spring Newsletter here.

Not a New Canaan, Darien or Greenwich name on the Fairfield County roster — 3 programs with a lot of well-coached talent…..too bad….
Connecticut is loaded. Just weird that Berger isn’t playing in that game. Both games should be very exciting.
I stand corrected — Barrett from Greenwich is on the list….very good player…..
no macari… a lot of good players here, missing the BEST player.
Macari will be away at school. thats why hes not playing. Notre Dame wont let hanratty play.
Let’s go, Dobbs!
Fairfield County has 1 QB on their roster. I’m glad to see no nepotism was involved while selecting these teams….
# 7 DesRuisseaux from Stratford is also a QB.
T. Dean Tsopanides
Have a great game Team CT. We are all so proud of all of you.
Rhode Island is gonna SMASH!!! Its gonna be a good game, good luck R.I.
there are alot of BIG names on this roster…..BUT..big is not always better….watch Phil Terio from trumbull…he can alter a game single handed..from either def or off.
you have to keep in mind that (like someone mentioned already), a lot of the players that are college bound, do NOT play in this game… no one is playing favorites. Any player off to a top program is already gone, and any player planning to make an impact as a freshman at any level in college is being advised not to play.
Most of the players (not all) you see here are going to be redshirts, if they even go on to play in college.
John Murphy found a way to coach at Southington!
(sorry, coach, couldn’t resist)
Good luck team CT!
Reggie Palmer – Southington doesn’t deserve Coach Murphy, not even to have him coach 1 game there. But, that was the venue for the game, so what can you do. He is much to talented of a coach to go to a mediocre program like Southington. And if they have such a great program, then they are clueless on how to pick a head coach. They have now given up the opportunity to have Coach Murphy change their program around twice, what does that tells you? What he has done for Masuk no other coach could have done, hope he never leaves.
there are so amny people who arent playing for new haven like, NDs Dave Rose and Tirell Young Williams, Xaviers GRaham Stewart, some O line man from xavier also
