Week 3′s Warde at New Canaan game isn’t just a crucial FCIAC showdown between a potential upstart (though recently deflated) vs. the established, state-caliber power. It isn’t just Warde coach Duncan Della Volpe matching wits with his old colleagues at New Canaan.
It’s also “Traditions” week.
Traditions is a weekly feature produced by Drew Thorry‘s Five x Five Productions and shown on SNY every Sunday morning. The show is heading up to New Canaan to examine Lou Marinelli’s program as it prepares and plays Friday night’s game vs. the Mustangs at Dunning Field.
The Traditions website has already posted interviews of New Canaan coaches and players, past and present.

SHOULD BE COOL———-ALWAYS COMPARED NEW CANAAN TO ANSONIA—NOBODY LIKES EM CUZ THEY CANT BEAT THEM.
@ Cept Masuk lol Cept masuk
42-41 Ward.
gunna be a tough game tho cud go either way
i like your point sir
@Mr. Jabba agreed with your prediction of ward. I have a hard time believing that NC will put up 40. I would put it past Coach Delvoppe to pour some salt in the wounds if he gets up.
@Mr. Jabba
isnt it spelt Warde? or is that just me?
#2 GOT YOUR GED?
couldn’t have 2 better schools representing connecticut – Ansonia with its tradition, and New Canaan with its as well. Maybe Greenwich or Staples in years to come.
No way the New Canaan vs Warde game is even close. NC in a shallacking
are you guys hitting the pipe? does anyone really believe that Warde can beat New Canaan? I mean i have always known that there were some ridiculous people on here but that is just absurd. we saw what happened with Warde v. darien when the tailback from Warde got hurt it was game over for the mustangs. the only way this game is close is if nc’s qb doesn’t play. i realize you guys are new canaan kids just trying to stir something up, but come on your better then this.
New Canaans run defense must improve.
I like the part where John Marinelli quotes ESPN’s “Boys of Fall”: “Tradition is an everage player playing better than he ought to.” He’s right that “average” kids from NC, Ansonia, Staples, Cheshire, for example, are brought into a culture that expects to win every time they step onto the field. That culture is not built overnight and is a tribute to the coaching staffs and to the towns themselves.
I agree with you HONUS, that was a great show. I like that he brought that in as well. I like Charlie Westfal too, he is doing great things down at W&L, captain this year and leading a 3-1 team right now. Remember that comeback in 2007 against Hand? Talk about average kids for New Canaan… Their best receiver and Runningback got injured in the state semi finals, Ted Finan, and those kids still found a way.
