This looks like each team just submitted a list and the number allocated to them was a function of their record (between 2 to 6 per school per first/second team). No vote needed.
Daquan Coleman of Notre Dame Fairfield should have been 1 of the 3 players selected from that team. No arguement with Nigel Beckford’s selection. Well deserved.
I wish the SWC would expand its All League team. 50 players on the first team just isn’t enough. The people making these selections are inconsiderate. The backup punter from Barlow didn’t get an award. I thought this was America??
Connor Shanahan was 3rd in the SWC in passing yards. He should have been atleast selected to the second team all- SWC.
Jim – Daquan Coleman had a sensational last game but it was against an 0-10 Immaculate team as well as I believe being motivated by being his last game as a Senior. Frankie Zumbo and Nigel Beckford are by far the heart and Soul of ND Football and best All around players of the team and everyone knows that. They earn every inch of what they get work very hard and deserve ALL-STATE honors!! Daquan is a good kid and a great athlete but missed 3 games due to minor injuries and a left finger injury that kept himout of the game vs. MASUK which he could have played. Was it Masuk-itis? Instead. Frankie Zumbo stepped up and played his first ever game at QB sacrificing himself for the team. He also sufferered a minor A/C shoulder separation the first game of the seasobn vs. New Fairfield and missed the 2nd half of game. He sucked it up and played the next 2 weeks injured sacrificing for the team. Nigel Beckford has also been shaken up in games and returned later to play in games. There must ne allot said for mental toughness when choosing All-Star caliber players…its not always bout talent and stats. When you truly know what you are talking about let me know!! Take a guess who this is? Give you a hint…I was part of a coaching staff on a Youth Football teamthat went to 3 consecutive National Chamopionships. OK Jim?
@ JB – That is exactly how this is done…a teams record will determine how many slots they get and the head coach will select who is 1st team / 2nd team for his guys. A team may choose to have an internal vote as to who fills their spots but there is no vote from other head coaches…
Incredibly, even this list isn’t exhaustive as it doesn’t include the Honorable Mention selections. Since the SWC coaches pick an All State team to promote and vote for in their repective Classes, why can’t that team be advanced as the All conference team? It would require no additional effort.
@4 Chris. I too was wondering where the NM QB was..Honorable Mention maybe? But if the IHS QB is first team, then you have to put the NM QB there too..Saw him twice this year, big arm, had like 20 tds this season, but maybe a few too many picks? I don’t know, but seems strange how this is listed out. Not voted by other coaches, so it is his coach who knows the answer…Maybe wanted to recognize other players on his team, or just doesn’t like his qb…
I think Puglisi from Brookfield is worhy of 1st team as well..but since we all seem to agree the list doesn’t ring true, then I guess who cares…
THEY FORGOT THE JANITOR FROM BROOKFIELD HIGH
Why do you hate on Brookfield? ^
All SWC makes the all league status and recognition irrelavant for college recruiting purposes. Too many guys make it from that league. If you start at all, you seam to be recognized as all SWC. Waters down the rest of the state. People actually feel this will help for college recruiting by getting all SWC? Please…
Is Cochran going to be the answer at UConn? We can’t recruit QBs for some reason, and badly need one because our QBs stink! I hope Cochran is the answer. I watched him once and he was pretty good but against a very weak team (I think they were blue and orange maybe).
When you set records you obviously have to be pretty good but when he gets to the next level he won’t be playing a bunch of kids like I saw him play. He’ll be playin kids from Florida, Jersey etc. Now, I’m not trying to bash him, but UConn runs a pro style offense no spread like the one he was in. He also looks small 5’10 at most. Not very mobile. Now please SWC fans in no way am I trying to bash him I just love to see CT kids carry UCONN and I hope he’s the answer, just really hoping he is.
Please mask your SWC bias’ and let me know your real opinions, we already lost Dobbs to Marshall so I’m relying on Casey! Best of luck to him!
if a player in the swc happens to start for his respective school, his chances of making all swc are about 40%. fciac selections are based off three divisions and twenty teams. the swc is a 14 team conference that should have a 24, or 25 man all conference team. such a joke.
@UConn – the Huskies got a great transfer QB (Illinois) who can start next year and possibley bridge Casey’s development – http://blogs.courant.com/uconn_football/2011/12/uconn-gets-juco-honorable-ment.html
Also, the QB coach looks to be bolting to Fordham – http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/45688499/ns/sports-college_football/
But depending on who UConn hires as the QB Coach replacement, maybe even Casey’s commitment might be at risk. Could Casey follow Moorehead to Fordham? Fordham has left the Patriot league and can now offer full-ride athletic scholarships. Casey wants to start and all this could put his “deal” with UConn in flux.
Here is more details on the new UConn QB – http://www.fightingillini.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/whitmer_chandler00.html
@ JB
You think Casey is more loyal to the QB coach than Jack is to Pasqualoni?
Sounds unlikely.
How did Davon Johnson play at Ansonia in their week 1 game and then go to Bassick the next week and play for them. Someone had to be wrong in that move.
@Reggie – Well, this kid from Illinois was a 4-star recruit out of HS and if he works out would likely be the starter for the next 3 years. Casey isn’t yet ready to start at the D1 level and may now not get enough PT to develop. We’ll see, but Coach P is definiley starting to shake things up at UConn.
