I don’t get how this team was selected. Especially the Offense. They needed to pick 5 RB’s? They only select 3 Offensive Lineman? Only 1 QB? Matt Milano and Matt Paola, who (by far) is the best kicker in the State, were not good enough to make this team. GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK. Statistically, other kids got shafted as well. This team makes NO SENSE. Some of these RB’s are NOT ALL-STATE. The Defense was pretty accurate and at least it has some balance to it. Tyler Valenti of Pomperaug, who averaged 16 tackles per game should be on this team.

  2. cliff says:

Where the heck is bobby rose??

  3. Six RBs. I accidentally left McKinnon off.

My only bug about this is that it should not have 6 RBs. There should be at least 3 and disperse the others. And bring back some O-Linemen.

  4. @Cliff – Robert Rose is on there. Class LL all-state.

  5. NVL says:

New Canaan has 5 players on the overall & L team combined. You’d like to add another? So they would have 6 total, which is more than Greenwich and Staples combined. Two teams that they weren’t close to being as good as. Twice as many as Hand who crushed them a couple of weeks ago. Complain about New Canaans being WAY over-represented as it is first then complain about Milano not making it.

  6. CluelessInConnecticut says:

@NVL – All I’m saying is Milano is the second best QB in the State and he did not make this team. They picked 6 RB’s and some of them are not even in the top 10 at their position. Trust me, I’m not a New Canaan supporter at all and I can’t stand the FCIAC. I just thought he should have made it. Don’t complain, DiGeorgi was decent during the regular season and had a very good run in the States against some very bad defensive teams.

  7. Cthsfbfan says:

Milano is not the second best qb, maybe third or fourth, everyone overlooked hand qb foye, who outplayed cochran and milano in the playoffs, he didnt even make the L all state team, new cannan is overrated, there are alot better players out there

  8. James says:

Certainly don’t mean to bash kids, but the inclusion of six RBs (some of whom, I’m convinced, would not even start for your run-of-the-mill SCC or FCIAC team) is bizarre.

Otherwise, I think these are excellent selections. Think the defense would shut down the offense (and not just because the offense would be playing with three OL!) – and that’s a testament to the dominance of D in ’11. Talk about an intimidating front seven.

  9. Fan says:

What a total injustice for DB Shawn Flynn

  10. john says:

A little bit out of balance w/ 6 RB’s on the all-state team and only 3 OL!! No TE, K or P. This should be a way to honor the best of the best by position. The result is that some of these 6 RB’s would have made the LL-S class all-state team, which is pretty darn good recognition as well.

  11. UConn says:

All State teams shouldn’t even be released cause of people on this blog. You get all worked up for no reason. It’s all politics and numbers. You think people really watched every team and paid attention to all these kids. No! So what your kid didn’t make the team, big deal. Would you rather go play football at the next level or make an all state team in probably the worst high school football state in the country, maybe Rhode Isalnd, but still shut up its not a big deal. In 5 years when you graduate college and look at your all state team this year 90% of these kids will be forgotten and no one will care. Let it go

  12. GT says:

With all due respect to the kids, these selections indicate the best players on the best teams, with some exception made to players who with their outstanding abilities demand attention. All you other great players out there hold your heads high and pay no mind to these teams. Go on to play and compete at your highest level.

  13. Fan says:

Rumor has it Masuk’s head coach Murphy’s office is all packed and ready to go to St Joes and he’s trying real hard to take a certain player with him Wow think it’s because next years varsity team is going to be on the losing side by 35 every game It’s a total disgrace how he treated a certain loyal player and how he’s leaving such a mess

  14. JB says:

I think a true All-State team should be one person by-position – 11 each way – and then add 2 All-Purpose guys, a Punter and a Kicker (26 total make All-State). Get in a room or on a conference call and make some tough choices. The best deserve the recognition.

However, at the by-Class All-State level one can have some flexibility to name say 2 QBs or 4 RBs if it is really warranted so teams are well represented and the best in a Class are recognized. This is especially important to honor the best seniors who worked so hard to excel for their teams.

  15. Working on my own team, i can say it’s pretty agonizing deciding who belongs on an all-area team. It’s tough

  16. perspective says:

Lets hope that the register isn’t picked like this, show some cohonjes and leave mastroanni off, Lytton or Newsome, or McKinnon wudda had 4,000 yards running behind that line, but hes a feel good story that people like the little engine that could

  17. Rick says:

Sean, is there anyway you can do an all area team and an all state team? There are a ton of people who read this blog from other parts of the state that would be interested in your all state team.

  18. I saw Mastro getting his picture took. So that’s not happening

  19. SCC Guy says:

Mastro was certainly an ALL STATER. Perspective = swc guy. Who would you pick? Markus haha?

  20. Tigers25 says:

No Ridgefield players on first team. That’s the first time in years. Wow! That’s going to heavily interfere with their scholarship hopes. It does help that they made All FCIAC though.

  21. JB says:

Sean, just trust your gut … you have all the stats and seen everyone play so it just comes down to the intangibles of who brings it the best every week and tends to make the biggest plays from their position to win games. Looking forward to your agonized-over list!

  22. jim shorts says:

@Cthsfbfan new canaan has made it to the championship game 6 years in a row… that’s not overrated

  23. Brain Surgeon says:

@SCC GUY – Yes Markus and other SWC Backs over those Jokes. Ever see the Bunnell Backs run? I heard Mastro had to stand on some phone books for the photo shoot.

If your going to pick 6 backs pick the ones that count, Ledyard-Holy Cross. Please…….

Put Feneroli behind the Xavier line and see how he does.

  24. ValleyFalls1 says:

    HUH?

13 players on on offense and defense, not Candadian rules, but not quite to Australian rules either. Not sure I would play a game with only 3 offensive linemen, some of those RBs and WR better be able to block.

  25. JB says:

Shane Nastahowski is the only CT player to make Mike Quick’s All-Metro First Team. It will be interesting to see where he signs to play football. I could see him playing strong safety and special teams at someplace like a Stanford or Penn State. If not, definitely outside LB in the Ivy League.

  26. Fred says:

Yes, almost any running back would gain five yards with Xavier’s O-line, but Mastro is deserving because after clearing the line he would make great decisions on which way to cut, spin off would-be tacklers, and had to be gang tackled to the turf. You had to see him to believe. If he only had some speed…..

  27. James says:

Have to agree with Fred. One of the ugliest runners I’ve ever seen, but a highly effective one. Had a few runs in the Class LL title game where he made the right cut at the line, broke a tackle and literally stumbled 20+ yards at half-speed. Everyone loves a burner, but the mark of a great HS RB is the ability to pick holes, patiently follow your blockers and make the cut when it’s needed. It’s an exceedingly rare skill, unfortunately – too many kids at this level don’t possess it. But Mastro’s got it in spades.

In conclusion: definitely deserving of All-State status (some of these other RBs, on the other hand…)

  28. RAY BROWN says:

THIS IS A STRANGE ALL-STATE TEAM

  29. saywhat says:

    why no feneroli

  30. Fenaroli is on the Class LL all-state team

  31. Ex Masuk Parent says:

Hey Fan stop spreading rumors. Coach Dell isn’t going anywhere. Judging from your other comment how he mis treated a certain DB who made all state twice, was a captain, all SWC twice and is headed to college to play ball. I wish he mistreated my kid that bad. How you can bash a guy who put 16 years into a program made it into a State power is tough. If Coach Murph does leave maybe it’s people like you that he’s trying to get away from. It would be a shame for the younger kids not to have him as coach. He changed my son’s life for good.

  32. Fan says:

Hey Ex Masuk Parent it’s called loyalty and get something straight that player earned every title he got

  33. Pro Coach says:

You have to be kidding me,,,Frankie Zumbo for ND Fairfied is ranked #1 in the state in tackles with 14,4 per game for Class S and top 5 in the state as well as with 724 yards rushing as a full back #1 in the state and does not get mentioned???? WHAT A FARCE!!

  34. SWC Fan says:

Put it into perspective – first, the better teams get the most picks; and second, playing for the least best team (attempt at political correctness) in the conference and, arguably, one of the least best teams in the state – doesn’t help. No one takes the numbers seriously – because the team wasn’t competitive against most teams. The kid would have had to have put up gargantuan numbers against good competition, if he were to get recognized. He chose to attend Notre Dame – and this is definitely a pitfall. You know – the big fish theory. Look on the bright side, if he was one of Notre Dame’s shining stars, he may get asked to play in the Fairfield County/New Haven County game. If his coach is reading and he really respects the kid, he can pull some strings and get the kid some recognition. In the end, if he was that good a player, his competition and team mates will remember him for that. That’s what matters most. Merry Christmas!

  35. RAY BROWN says:

    @33—PLEASEEEEE

  36. MHS Football says:

Agree with Masuk Ex Parent, except for the point about Coach Murph leaving because of parents like FAN. You will get those type of parents in any program you go to. Coach Murph needs to coach football and not worry about idiotic parents. FAN – yes he did earn every title he got, but if Coach Murph didn’t put him in the right position and situation he would have gotten all those titles. Come on FAN, give credit where credit is due. On a side note, heard Cochran is gone. That is a big relief for all in Monroe.

  37. SWC Fan says:

In retrospect and given the comment by MHS Fan – can’t do anything but feel lousy about a kid like Chacho and how Cochran (the father) used/abused the system. In the future, I hope coaching staffs and administrators grow some ballz and make a stand. No sense of community or loyalty to the kids that were there from the get go. All about winning!

  38. Boss blog says:

Chaco was/is a great talent and to not get a chance to display his skills is not fair to him. To say he was a born and bred kid isn’t really the truth though. He transferred out of Derby. A move to Shelton would have been a great thing for him and Shelton football.

  39. # 31, Murph would’nt leave the program, a strong one, because of parents or rumors. ( maybe because of truths though ). But he has applied for other coaching positions over the years. Loyalty ? And #s 37 and 38. Yes, It was/is a Disgrace what happened to the kid Chacho. Cochran ( father ) knows how to work/abuse the system. Murph and administrators allowed it. Chacho did’nt transfer to Monroe, he moved there after a divorce, when he was 10 years old, Monroe player since 6th grade. Shelton, or any where else, would have been better for him once Cochran got involved.

  40. Pro Coach says:

#35 Do you ever have anything good to say to anyone?

  41. Pro Coach says:

TO SWC FAN as well as Boss Blog – Do either of you know the real story regarding Chaco? I do and its unfortunate Cochran was broughy in but there was also open competition. Correct? Besides Chaco had an opportunity with ND Fairfield and if it wasnt for an unlucky knee injury in his last preseason game in hid Junior Year he may have been able to pull off some decent numbers. But what nobody knows is MASUK could have won the State Championship with Chaco too. The players that are around Cochran must be given Credit. Markus, Milone, Monaco, Bacarella, Flynn and all of the supporting cast have PRETTY much played together since 89ers PEE WEES, thriugh Midgets for the Monroe Lions. Did you aslo know that Frankie Zumbo played with all these guys and was a TEAM Captain for a team that went to 3 National Champiomships and 5 consecutive Candlkewood Valley Championships? So your BIG FISH in a small pond theory doesnt apply as to the kid. And did you know he can do the same or even more for these guys? They all are teamates forever and they all would love to have him back to play with them one more time. Ask anyone in Monroe and they will confirm this.

  42. Fan says:

Hey I give Masuks coach all the credit in the world but to say putting a talented player in a certain position made that player ? That’s totally absurd .look at the stats. Oh by the way I have no kids in any programs I just turned 17 I played 3 years of pop Warner football with the player and against him for 2 years in high school . And as far as the coach leaving sorry that’s just what we are hearing . Can’t wait to play you next year Masuk

  43. SWC Fan says:

Thanks for the education. Everything, except for the Zumbo connection, is old news. Bottom line – this year’s Notre Dame football team stunk and to the victors go the spoils. The kid still has time to make some noise in college. Good luck to him. As for you, bottle that energy, and save it for something that really matters.

  44. JB says:

Just watched the Sean Marinan video highlights (see Twitter Updates under “29sonski”) – WOW, has to be the best overall OL/DL guy in CT. The technique is so good and the disciplined power is dominating – nobody could stop him at the HS level. Curious to see where he goes for college – high GPA and Dad’s Ivy roots points in that direction. Anyone know his plans?

  45. CCC says:

Hey # 36, Where did you hear Cochran was gone to ? Signed Uconn letter of intent, did it in New London. What a loyal Masuk recruit. How long you Monroe people going to keep talking about football ? Cochran ? They used you for their advantage, now leaving you. Windsor would have beat you too. It’s over.

  46. Brain Surgeon says:

At 45 Masuk would have just ran the ball down your throat. Winsor has never won anytime anywhere against a Ffld. County team.

  47. PompFan04 says:

HAHAHA, Just another slap in the face to the CIAC having Casey sign his Letter of Intent in NEW LONDON(where he lives)Love when Jack says “up yours” to the powers that be and for that fact to the Masuk community. All the hype for three years and really only played in and won 1 championship!!! I will say this though they should have been the number 1 team in the state in 2010 but because of their defense NOT offense.
Now,I wonder if the other 4-5 kids that actually live in New London where with him when he signed?

  48. Big Fish@ Little Sea says:

Casey was the starting QB for New London in 2008 when they won the SS Title vs Seymour.Casey played in 3 state finals, winning 2.Can you name another QB in State history to win a State Title as a starting QB for 2 different teams ?

  49. Big Fish@ Little Sea says:

Actually only played in 2 Title games, winning both.

  50. PompFan04 says:

@ Big Fish I realize that, but I was referring to the Masuk situation.

  51. BAUS says:

@JB Nastahowski has no chance of playing at a school like stanford or penn st, he’s not even close to as good as meyers was a couple years back

  52. Master Legend says:

So what exactly was the purpose of Tim Loh’s article about Ansonia?

  53. Master Legend says:

@BigFish- you make it seem as though winning a title with one team and then inexplicably transferring and winning a title at another school is a noteworthy accomplishment. So if Holy Cross’ QB transfers to Ansonia next year and wins a title, does that make him an all time top 5 QB??

  54. @Master – Life in the big city. Just showing how tough the former 2002-03 champs have had. I had nothing to do with the story, but I really thought it was exceptional.

I understand how some might not like it. It’s not a particularly flattering look, but neither’s life.

  55. CT Football guy says:

What a total injustice for LB Frank Zumbo

  56. perpsective says:

hey can we stop talking about zumbo, maybe you should worry about how nd can even dream of a .500 season in the foreseeable future! By the way, has Rico tendered his resignation to become a double A hitting instructor in an mlb organization yet?

  57. Steve mackna says:

Where is tahir manning from west haven he was a force against all competition even when he was double and triple covered…

  58. Big Fish@ Little Sea says:

@53 Yes and No.By winning a State Title as a Starting QB for 2 different teams shows that you were a quality QB for at least 2 years and in Casey’s case 4 years ,so in that portion yes it’s a an accomplishment. Transferring to another school to win a State Title is not as big of so an accomplishment in my view .Having done something nobody has done before is left up to ones own degree of accomplishment level.

  59. Big Fish@ Little Sea says:

Tahir Manning was indeed a force for the Westies. He looked very good vs Hand. The Tigers definitely had trouble covering him.

  60. Mail Man says:

    NVL,

So New Canaan wasn’t close to being as good as greenwich or staples? New London WHIPPED Greenwich, and then New Canaan beat up on New London. I know they won by a point, but they physically dominated new london at the line of scrimmage. As for staples, it would have been a good game, but NC would have won.

  61. Tigers25 says:

Im sick of this zumba and swc talk. Swc fan, i mean perspective, maybe you should worry about criticizing a CHILD on a blog. Grow up buddy. You talk nonsense and junk about every other league on here and then say something about a player from your own. You’re confused. Bigfish, I would like to see Cochran win two in the FCIAC playing staples, NC, and ridgefield each year. UCONN will benefit heavily. His all state and all league selections make him heavily qualified to compete at the next level. Without those honors, I know i would not respect him as much.

  62. ND-F supp says:

What a shame done to Frankie. No respect. His stats should speak for itself. I can’t keep reading these ‘all star’ teams without his name in it for POY in the area or at least defensive MVP. No respect.

  63. BeanBag says:

    I feel the same way.

  64. Red Snapper says:

@ Everyone – If Jack Cochran never got fired Casey would have stayed at New London and Lord Knows how many Championships he would have won.

  65. Master Legend says:

Are we talking about Frankie Zumbo or Keyser Soze??

  66. SWC Fan says:

Hey tigger, I’m not perspective. Don’t get that confused again!

  67. Rider says:

Frank Zumbo who!!!! What did he do to better his team???

  68. Frankie Z says:

OK Guys – There is enough said about my kid here.. Leave it alone! We all know that Politics plays a huge part when selection takes place, sometimes it works fpr you but most times it will work against you.

Sean Patrick Bowley – Do you think there should be an investigation how these teams are chosen instead of a closed door process? No one cannot honestly tell a kid who was ranked #1 in Class S in Tackles that he does not deserve to be at the least chosen ALL-STATE Class S after being Selected SWC 1st team. I see some SWC 2nd Team players making ALL-STATE CLASS M, L, LL Yet they all play same opponents?
Rider – You obviously know nothing about Frankie.. For you to say and to question what he does for ND Football is ridiculous..ok! Why dont you have a heart to heart conversation with Coach Rico Brogna. Do you know more about coaching than Rico who is a real Professional and Major leaguer? Frankie Zumbo and Nigel Beckford are the backone put their heart and soul who can play anywhere on any team in the state regardless of division or Class. and I will back that up with performance, not words any day of the week. Masuk would take these bith kids in a heartbeat.. So…that said Football is a game about numbers.. If you have it increases your chances being successful team on the field. It’s obvious when you play on a team with low numbers you cannot win no matter who plays on that team. Let me see you play every down of every game.. play your damn heart out and sweat with every ounce of energy and end up coming up short game after game. So You dont think that’s a bit disheartening knowing it is a constant struggle and must be in top condition to be your best for 4 quarters? There is something to be said about “SACRIFICE” or sucking it up..and putting your team ahead of yourself while playing to the best of your ability at 100%, every down of every minute of the game for the TEAM

SWC FAN and PERSPECTIVE. I challenge all of you to come out one day, meet the kid. After meeting him and watching him play his heart out then give an opinion of him..Then talk or write what you really think Season is over and off to a different sport and set of rules in 2012

  69. Masuk Supporter says:

Murph aint leaving Masuk. The Masuk parents, whose kids dont play, are the ones who are always complaining about him. The parents just need to understand that their kids just arent ready to play football for a top level program. You dont want to set the children up for failure. Also, if Murph leaves Masuk will turn into another average program. Murph has never had a losing season in Monroe and for the people that have followed the program from the start here were their records before Murph:
    1991:1-8-1
    1992:2-8
    1993:6-4
    1994:5-5
    1995:8-3
1996:10-3 ( lost twice to Newtown. Coach Murph was Newtowns DC that year and he shut them down)

    Murph started in 1997
1997: Murphs first season: Masuk returned only 2 starters from the previous year and they went 6-5.
    98: State Champs/SWC 11-2
99: 11-1 State Playoffs (LL) and SWC Champs
00: 12-1 State Finalists (L) and SWC Champs
    01: 6-4
    02: 8-3 State Playoffs
03: 12-1 State Finalists and SWC Champs

    I’ll stop now.

  70. Ct.Fan says:

I have attended a quite a few High School Football games in the SWC
including Masuk, St Josephs.Trumbull,Shelton,Newtown, and Pomperaug. As well as other conference games over the years and quite honestly sometimes cannot believe how certain kids are left out in the All-State selection. I am chiming in regarding some of these comments made on Notre Dame Fairfield player Frankie Zumbo. I see

  71. Ct.Fan says:

    #69 continued

I see that he is a very hard nose kid and when I watched him a few games this year as well as last year this kid is running the ball 99% of the time between the tackles picking up 5-7 yards a pop carrying an average of 2-3 players with him as a lead runner or full back. On three different occasions I have witnessed him breaking 4 or more tackles to get a 15-20 yard gain. What amazed me was there were a number of times he carried the ball for a few yards and get gang tackled by practically the whole defensive team and still not go down until the whistle blown with a couple of times seeing him spin out of it for a potential long gainer and to no avail because of a quick whistle. I was unaware of him having all those tackles a linebacker as I am reading now but you have to feel for a kid that earns his way and for whatever reason was not selected for a well deserved All-Star team. WOW?

  72. Clip says:

68…Please, anyone can coach and win in that league.

  73. SjWvC says:

The SWC is a junior varsity league… anyone can win there…

  74. Red Snapper says:

He plays for ND because he wouldn’t even start for Masuk. If you think yes – tell me where?

  75. Frankie Z says:

TO RED SNAPPER – Why dont you ask Murphy or any coach on that staff – They love Frankie and would take him back instantly!! Its called a bond and chemistry…obviously its something you know nothing about. Frankie be doing the same exact thing as he always did there. He would be their primary RB/FB in Rock Formation (which is Delaware wing T) Since you say negative things, think you know so much AND YOU REALLY DONT!! He would be starting at Middle LB and long snapper just as he had been doing this since 6th grade on the Monroe Lions team that went to 3 Consecutive National Championships while on 6th, and 8th 1st runners up National Champions and winning the AYF National Championship on the 7th grade TEAM. He was a TEAM Captain for 5 years on the LIONS who also went to 5 Straight CVL Championships…and guess what? Most of the MASUK team right now would accept him as a Captain once again and i know it! By the way RED SNAPPER…Before you talk…know the facts. Nothing YOU SAY MAKES ANY SENSE. just like your remark in #64..regarding ” @ Everyone – If Jack Cochran never got fired Casey would have stayed at New London and Lord Knows how many Championships he would have won.

So everything you talk about is “what if” OR “WHO KNOWS” maybe because you never really did anything? You see…thats because I base my ALL of my comments on actaual facts and knowledge to be true. where your comments are shot from the hip and based on nothing at all

  76. Clip says:

#68…I have to say you are lucky that his name is even being mentioned. He plays hard like all the kids in that little league. Remember, he plays for a terrible team in a terrible league. He may be a good player but you really can’t tell because of the teams he plays against. How did he fair against good teams like Masuk, and other good teams. You are on the defense as a parent not as a fan.

  77. Frankie Z says:

I have to say Clip maybe you should look at GAME STATS and you are lucky that your name is even being mentioned umm…lets see now… Remember when you look up stats..Would you consider these teams good?
5 carries 37 yds with 17 tackles vs, MASUK (1st half played QB)
16 carries 75 yds with 12 tackles vs. Pomperaug
24 carries 112 yds with 13 tackles vs. Brookfield

  78. Frankie Z says:

Clip – forgot a 22 yd TD run vs MASUK Broke 4 tackles

  79. # 75, I understand what you’re saying about your son being a youth league player in Monroe. But you’re wrong about murph wanting him back in an instant. murph holds grudges, and once you leave Monroe, try to come back and see how he treats you. Even if you’re son deserved it, murph would screw him out of playing time, he’s done it before.

  80. Funny Stuff says:

Frankie Z, would he have played RB/FB over Markus or Milone? Or MLB over Duignan? All three of these boys are all state and great players. I doubt they would have lost their positions to Frankie. I am sure your son is a great player, just not sure if he could hang with the big boys. With Markus and Duignan gone this year, he would have a chance to start as a senior, just not sure if it would have happened for him as a junior. Maybe that is why you felt ND was a better fit for him. And enough about the youth stuff. That was a long time ago, really means nothing, except you look sorta foolish by keep bringing it up. You won your National Championship one year by playing – South Duchess – now that was challange???!!

  81. Masuk Supporter says:

Frankie Z:Stop talking about what he did for the Monroe Lions pop warner team. Who cares about the Monroe Lions. Pop Warner is not high school. Until he goes to Masuk you cant say he would start.

  82. Red Snapper says:

    @ 75 – Dude 6th grade is over.

  83. James says:

    Parents/family of Frankie Zumbo –

Please stop. You’re embarrassing your kid. This retroactive recognition campaign is pointless and, ultimately, unbecoming. Time to let it go.

  84. Master Legend says:

Once you become an adult, you should abide by the following 3 rules:

    1. Stop sagging your pants.
    2. Turn your hat forward.
    3. Call yourself Frank instead of Frankie.

Unfortunately, All State voters don’t take AYF accolades into account. I don’t want to take anything away from the kid,. I’m sure he’s a hell of a player and a hardworker, but when someone’s father comes on here and starts whining about postseason awards, it hurts the kid’s image. Ehhh…whatever. 2011 is over. 2012 will be the Year of the Lancer!

  85. Who Cares says:

Who freaking cares about All State you sound like a bunh of parents that baby their kids and give them everything. You might think your kid is goo but there are ppl who don’t you have to live with that. If your child goes on to be a doctor some day is it going to matter that in high school he was all state 3rd team and not first. God, it’s about who is on good teams and what names get the most ink. In 2007 the whole Ansonia line should of been the all state OL but you can’t do that you have to look at other kids.

Parents get over yourselves, your child, nephew, or perhaps yourself are not as good as you think they are.

You folks must be Fairfield county regarding how much crying is going on

  86. Rider says:

Frank Z…nice stats but are they accurate and who in their right mind would know those stats. I know players that laugh at those stats. Big deal. You have those stats because you have a GOOD player (Thats All) getting many opporunities. When he played Masuk and got all those tackles and yards, was it against the 10th string???

  87. Red Snapper says:

    24 carries for 112 yards – that’s one hell of a average.

  88. OriginalPompFan says:

@77 – Those stats are a waste of time. ND got blown away in all three games and the backups were playing in the 3RD and 4th quarter. My son plays for Pomperaug and I remember the kid. I thought he was a good player on a very bad team. He plays hard. I was very impressed with Nigel Beckford as a running back. He is legit. I think Zumbo is good enough to be a 2nd team All-SWC player at MLB or FB. The kid from Bunnell is better at both positions. Remember one thing; Colleges do not care about High School Stats. It’s all about the measurables. Height, weight, speed, etc. etc. There are kids that are stars on their team and could not start for others. There are 200 CT High School players out there as good or better. This is way too much hype for the kid. Let’s move on.

  89. OriginalPompFan says:

By the way, the best MLB in the SWC is Tyler Valenti. Matt Duignan is probably second.

  90. Sonny says:

#75 Those Monroe teams that went to the National championship are all a joke. You didn’t even play the best team in the East so how could you claim NATION CHAMPS. Even the people of Monroe know its a joke. Please stop telling people you were nation champs because it makes you look like a bunch of chumps.

  91. Tape says:

#68 Frankie definitely CAN NOT play for any team in the state. Let be real here, He is to small for the SCC and would never last against teams like Hand and Xavier (Just ask Masuk the difference of playing Hand) I know and have about you talking about your kid. He is a good kid, be thankful for that. He is not the player you build him out to be…understand that.

  92. JJSportsPro says:

@ #91 Tape – How can you claim to be an authority or exoert regarding size, speed, and strength let alone football sense and heart. I believe you correctb there was a difference between Xavier and Hand vs. Masuk. If you know anything about football you would know that theses teams and lets say Hand forn instance was able to overpower Masuk’s Offensive and especially the defensive line and has nothing to do with the size and detrermination of a player at a skilled postion. Are you going to tell me that and disagree that the best backs now both in College and the Pros are 5’8-5’11 200-220lb range? You dont know what you are talking about but i am sure you would get run over by this kid just as most others did in the league one on one. Did you ever see the size ans power of this kids legs that never stop moving? I’ve watched this kid along Nigel Beckford and without a legitimate ans experienced offensive line put up really good numbers on both sides of the ball. and by the way, who said the SCC is great? I’m a fan of both sides but you should not bash anyone unless you have actual knowledge of someones ability to play and be a leader. You should take a look at a recent artical in The Wasport Minuteman on thr kid by a neutral sports reporter that contradicts your theory.

  93. Tape says:

#92 JJSportsPro… I am not an authority and neither are you (evident) Please don’t start with the numbers bit along with college and pro stuff. First tell me the competition level you played at in your high school career. If you play all the chump teams your whole high school career, the college scouts will know this. As far as the SCC goes, you mean to tell me there is no difference playing in Notre Dame’s division and the Hamden and Xavier division all year long???. Please remove sports pro and add JJJoke!!!

  94. SWC Fan says:

Okay – last comment on this Frankie Zumbo matter. Enough is enough. The level and nature of commentary on here is embarrassing. Frankie’s family – drop this matter publicly, discuss it at Thanksgiving dinner and keep it out of a public forum like this. It’s over! This string of comments has gotten way out of control. I’m hopeful that SPB will shut off the comments here, so that this lunacy ends.

  95. Cthsfootball says:

Mark my words,Brown will NOT be the QB for the all-CT team next year that will be Boyle from Xavier who ACTUALLY has two offers!!!! The game he played in was not an “all-American game”!! It even says that in the game write up,it had nothing to do with his play in the high school season. He didn’t even make all-SWC for cripes sake. His father needs to stop calling the paper about every camp the kid goes to,stop bashing the coaches and other players, and stop lying about fictional offers and looks. Boeing is a very nice young man its a shame that his father is ruining everything and over-hyping his ability.

Someone on here named like 10 or so other QB’s in the state that are better and I agree with that, this year,BB had a better soph year throwing the ball less. Of course having the Kelly kid was a huge help last year also. If you ask my opinion BB will make a good div2 or low level 1aa QB ie: CCSU,Monmouth,Stonehill,Merrimack. At really what’s wrong with that?

  96. fan says:

knowing a little about brookfield what the last post said was true. his father is a nighmare and has made his life very difficult. if you read this mr b back off and watch how your kid succeeds

  97. whopper16 says:

Check this out… South Carolina and others are interested…get back to me on signing day…

  98. Titletown says:

Arkeel Newsome sophomore All American, state MVP. Get some!

Two NVL kids played in public vs private school all star game in Florida, Vano (Ansonia) and Lynton (Torrington)

Vano started with kids from all around the country. I think now that the season is over lets not bash CT kids and rather hope they excel at the next level. How great is it to see one of the best TE’s in the NFL be one of the top players at his position and Moffit and Spivey be starters, and one of the greatest DE’s is from Hartford.

I know I’m a big homer to ansonia but good luck to all these CT kids at the next level. A lot of NCAA teams get exposure now a days make the best of it

  99. Master Legend says:

@98, I believe that article says that Brown is eyeing those schools. It doesn’t mention them eyeing him.

  100. Spreadofan12 says:

I fully agree Titletown. We do need to support and do a better job encouraging the kid. CT football takes a lot of flak but we have very talented kids that never get a chance. Congrats to Vano and Lytton on a good game.

  101. Cthsfootball says:

@whopper the father generates every story about the kid unfortunately. For instance he claimed that South Carolina was coming to see the kid play, never happened. You would think that these college coaches would be calling Coach A but they arent.
Maybe you and the father (that is if your not the father in disguise)could send the Immaculate,Weston,or Pomperaug films to the recruiters,Yuck.

I’ll say it again the kid seems like a very likeable kid but unfortunately he is WAY TO OVERHYPED. He threw like only 10 TD’s and had 10 ints. If those stats get you to all-American status, and offers from South Carolina there sure will be a lot of QB’ s getting offers,OR the Old Ball Coach has finally gone senile.

  102. Cthsfootball says:

BTW, your link says “Brown has his eye on some schools” it doesn’t say they have their eyes on him!!!!

  103. RAY BROWN says:

ive posted this before—-all-star teams are mostly political and a lot of times the better players are overlooked.one example is tyler williams, ansonias ROT.arkell newsome ran up his back all year for phenominal numbers and the kid was overlooked.but my favorite was when steve young was shunned as all -state qb in favor of a coaches kid.there are a ton of high school all-stars,its what you do after that makes you succesful.dont get upset frankie z,if your kid is good enough to play at next level ,he will.if not—-thank god you were able to see him play.

  104. B Durst says:

Some of you are downright comical!!!!!!!! Mastro played in by far the best conference in the state. One dummy making fun of the kids height………Come on people learn the game before you speak. 1. half these kids you are bragging about are back ups in the SCC……….and lets see all your boys run against a SCC defense week in and out. There’s no breaks like Wilby or Waterford Watertown whatever garbage you u on the field. One conference put there best team against the SCC doormat Branford and had to struggle for a later 4th quarter win. I wouldn’t even waste my time to comment on this blog of idiots who A. Were 4 year bench players at some bs NVL or crap conference school or B. Some Fantasy football tool who is still angry he was cut freshman year and had to resort to the band. GET A CLUE!!!!!!!!! don’t look at stats learn how to evaluate talent the comment!!!!!!!!!

  105. B Durst says:

BTW………..That kid from Brookfield would be back-up on most SCC JV teams. Sorry and Sad but very true! Like I said learn the game please then you can evaluate talent. till then daddy STFU

  106. B Durst says:

#69 Masuk is a average program………………..look to class L semi Hand 35 Masuk 14……..5-6 teams in the SCC would treat that team like RAW meat…….They just weren’t ready to play with the real big boys!!!!!!!

  107. B Durst says:

Frank Zumbo……………who? If that’s your kid pal stop embarrassing and you lad who plays JV for who? ND-FF………Do they even Have football? Can’t ND-WH.he would have been cut as a freshman and sent back to those jokers in Monroe….Really stop bragging about 6th grade ok Mr I stunk so I wish my kid was good Angry calzone eating fat man!!!!!!!!

  108. B Durst says:

And last but not least………………Newsome gets 1500 at best in the SCC………You people don’t get the difference in talent. Derby was winless year in and out in the SCC D2……now they go 5-5 every year in the NVL……….1500 yards is a gift as well Ansonia going at best 7-3 6-4 every year!!!!!!!!!and I don’t want to hear about these scrimmages that the Ansonia people make up there own score………….ex: 2009 Ansonia looked great really gave it to ND ………Final score ND 42 Ansonia 7………It’s ok you can lose sometimes and please realize your league stinks and Kevin Sharkey and Sandy Osheski graduated years ago……….but you can get a autograph @ Porky’s in Shelton Friday night before games……..get a clue people!!!! Marco Rumbin out

  109. Master Legend says:

The early leader for the 2012 Irrational Anger Award goes to……B Durst! The man who says that he wouldn’t waste his time commenting on this blog full of idiots and then writes 4 posts.

  110. Baron says:

But it seems that B Durst is on target!!!

  111. Frank Z says:

TO MR B DURST – What gives you the right to bash anyone kid here. Do you even know of them or what these kids actually do? You say that you wouldn’t waste your time commenting on this blog because they are full of idiots and then you write 4 posts bashing good hardworking kids. You are the IDIOT!! Not everyone else. ok! I agree with Master Legend that the only thing you could ever win is 2012 the Irrational Anger Award. By the way, Calzones are very good and much better than consumming a couple 6 PACKS a day like you are probably doing right now ..so go back to sleep and hopefully you will wake up with some consideration and good judgement rather than the Anger Issue that we see here..and by the way you can only wish you were as in good shape as I am and maybe some day we can talk. I can teach you some things about Football. Maybe then you can open your eyes and apologize to these kids who love to play the game instead of mocking all of them!

  112. Red Snapper says:

Hey B Durst – If a good back had over 200 carries behind the X line they would have rushed for 3000 yards. Not like Tatoo.

The plane – The plane !!

  113. BeanBag says:

B Durst. My inference skills tell me
You are A. 15 years old. B. mastro’s dad or C. Just a total loser that never played a down in the SCC.

  114. B Durst says:

    [POST DELETED]

  115. RAY BROWN says:

if you knew this guy you wouldnt even respond.hes spends most of his time talking to himself.if you know what i mean.

  116. SWC Fan says:

Durst – go back to your cave. You may be poking the hornets nest.

RAY, I have to applaude you for your civility.

Mr. Z – if I were you, stay off the blog for a while. It’s not worth the aggravation. You sound like a good guy, just a bit confused with how all of the post-season nonsense works. RAY’s comments are all direct hits.

  117. Baron says:

Mr. Z…I know of you and what you think of your sons talents. He is a good player not a great player. Enjoy this time for what it is and stop trying to make him out to be bigger then he actually is. He is a good player not some kind of elite player…PERIOD!!!

  118. nvl fan says:

hey ray brown i guess the coaches and the new regrister or wrong and you are right williams never made any 1st team all state team.like you said if he is good enough there would have see it. i just the right side of the line was not that good. to me looks like the left side of the line made all state everything.

  119. B Durst says:

Frank Z……….the truth hurts fat boy. I wasn’t bashing you kid I’ve never even heard of him so that tells you something. You sat here and bragged how much better he was than all these other kids…..NOT ME!!!!You know nothing about football or else you would keep you mouth shut and let your kids playing do the talking. Obviously from some of these posts it doesn’t!! As for the rest of you idiots 3 year starter in the SCC where the real big boys play and I’m def not angry I’m actually sitting here laughing @ how pathetic the rest of you are!!!!!!!!SCC the bank!!!! Eat a Calzone Franky Fat man..try not to get sauce on your shirt!!!! Durst out ETC!!!!!!

  120. Frank Z says:

@ 120 B Durst – You are a very very strange guy and i bet you are really the FAT man…or ALIAS Fat little Valley boy.. Have a TACO AND A BEER…and have a Jolly old time at home alone watching the NFL playoffs

  121. Overrated says:

Rumors has it Murph is leaving AGAIN. How does an AD put up with such BS year in and year out. If he wants to leave and is serious about it then go. If he is looking for people to beg him to stay, it aint happening, parents don’t care. I think it is a game he plays, problem is no one really cares. Time to hang it up.

  122. Greg says:

Sean this sites posters have reached a new low.Im going to avoid it until the summer.I enjoy your work but this has gotten out of hand. They sound like kids arguing>

  123. SCFan says:

Let’s change the subject and get back to a positive note. Espn insider Dave Hooker has reported that Brookfields Boeing Brown has recently picked up scholarship offers from Northwestern, Toledo, Tulsa, Central Florida, and Duke.

  124. fan says:

a lot of you should be ashamed of yourselves.. talking about kids the way you do. spb you should really think about getting rid of these posts because some of these comments are really low, or at least monitor them better. no way should kids be talked about this way

  125. fan says:

i mean does it really matter what league is better. ya the scc was better but my god talk about a bunch of parents ruining things for kids. instead of blaming teachers and parents for your kids being bad look in the damn mirror once in a while. or are most of you too busy with the mistress or milk man or whatever. i am a new parent myself and i will be damned if i set this kind of example for him. ya i know im posting anonymous but so are you

  126. I haven’t been monitoring as well as I should. I’ve taken the last month off.

No more negative bs. I will be monitoring.

  127. J Frat5 says:

Congrats to all the student Athlete’s across the state. Just got up for a run and decided to look @ how the CT football season did. A little behind I know. I played for ND-WH back 89-92. We were very good and won a ton of games………but man we didnt even talk to the other team the way some of these “bloggers” talk about young student Athlete’s…..So Durst Mr. Big Mouth..I did play in that league and we put a hurting on people just like a lot of these folks would me to but a hurting on you. Don’t insult a kid or his parent ever…….The kid is doing his best and of course the parent thinks his son is great..These all state teams and all that crap means nothing…….I started 2 years on teams that went to back to back title games…People prob never heard of me….didnt matter…WE won!!!!!and people are knocking kids about all state this and 2000 yards that bla bla bla……..Don’t insult a high school kid who is out there busting his ass for 1. His father and we dont know if its the kids father is bragging about him in a blog. and 2. people stop fighting over whos 1 and whos 4……..If you won state titles be proud!! you all deserve it if you want I will rank the top five…….I know I’m qualified 1. Xavier 2. DHAND only because of similar scores of teams played 3. Ansonia- always good and have seen Charger Teams that could play with if not beat LL-L champs….but sorry lack of weekly comp hurts 4-5 Does it matter IDK Staples and NC…theres 1-3 and everyone else……….on that not Durst grow up and get a clue and gentleman!!!!!!!!remember they are still HS KIDS!!!!!!!

  128. joe the shot says:

Listen Sean this guy Durst is full of crap he posted on your blog, which you have been ignoring, that any one with questions should call him he referred to things he posted but attributed them to someone else. He then posted the name and number of someone who has never seen this blog and doesn’t have a clue about hs football. This should be a crime. Please fix it.

  129. I’ll look at it. Thanks

  130. joe the shot says:

Thank you is appears to be jonfrat5 as well.

  131. joe the shot says:

J Frat you also use B Fuerst on Facebook as an alter ego to insult people. You are a sick punk and why this guy trusts you I don’t know. Get help
