Ansonia's Arkeel Newsome runs away from the entire Ledyard defense en route to a 95-yard touchdown run in the Chargers' 38-0 Class M title game. Newsome compiled an all-time, state-best 3,763 rushing yards and 62 touchdowns (total) and led the United States in rushing.
Ansonia sophomore tailback Arkeel Newsome has added another honor to his stacked mantle.
The first-team All-State and Connecticut Post MVP was recently named to the 2011 MaxPreps U.S. Air Force All-American Sophomore team.
The 5-foot-7 back, who broke the state’s single-season rushing record for the 14-0 Class M champions, makes the team as one of four running backs, joining Union (N.J.)’s Jamauri Bogan, Central (Miami)’s Joe Yearby and Jabrill Peppers, MaxPrep’s national sophomore of the year from Don Bosco Prep (N.J.)
Newsome’s 3,763 rushing yards was the third-best reported total in the country this season.

U think he’d make the 17 yr old all american team?
Congratulations to No. 2. Well done young man! We are very proud of you!
AHS just might have the most talented GROUP of players lining up for them, at the skill positions, in the state next season. The question mark will fall on having to replace their Oline.
Bad news is that they will have to replace 6 players on offense. Good news is, not only will they have a bigger, stronger and faster Newsome, the team returns 7 starters on what was a ridiculously good defense this past year.
This team will also add more 16 yr old waterbury freshman.
I can’t wait to meet them!
Can we stop with the Waterbury comments. Lets just let these kids enjoy their success. They work as hard as anyone. Congrats to Newsome and i wish you nothing but health and success in the future. I’m excited to see this team next season. This team is set at the skill positions and will have one of the fastest teams in the state next season.
Amen, Spread-O.
Obviously a few of the Catholic schools are recruiting machines and nobody questions where their players come from.
And quite a few public schools — some prominent ones — have had key players from other towns, some from the other side of the state.
Pot calling kettle black and all that.
Wake me up when September comes….
Yea and maybe Masuk will get another kid from New London or Xavier will recruit a kid in from Harrford, are you old enough to go to the Cochran days when he pulled in kids from everywhere.
You’re beating a dead horse and your argument is old. Get a life
