As I read the Fairfield County roster, I am scratching my head at the fact there is not one player from Staples, New Canaan, Darien, Ridgefield or Norwalk on the roster…..
Half of the names on the list wont play……
This game fails in comparison to the Governor’s Cup.
this is gonna be horrible fairfields gonna get whooped, their qb’s suck and they only have 2 receivers that can make plays in the bunnell kids, gonna be ugly early
What is the criteria for being chosen? Agree with fciacfootballfan.
Why is it that Wilton aside this year (seems like they have a quarter of the roster), the more well-to-do lower Fairfield County schools never are well represented in this game? Is it because they cannot be bothered or are they just on Nantucket for the Summer?
Well done Max Preps:

The FCIAC is a joke for not having their kids play. Get out of the middle chair Lou.
@mike… last years Fairfield-New Haven game was a much better football game than CT-RI. I heard from several players that the competition from New Haven was significantly better than all of RI.. That was also a game Fairfield won and handled pretty well. I wouldnt be surprised if they pull it off again and I am willing to bet it is a better game than CT-RI, if you actually saw it you would have to agree.
PLEASE STOP having these guys that run these DVD playbooks run the all star teams. Too much sideways passing.
God forbid you mess with success ANTITONYFRANKLIN – a lot more than just a “dvd” playbook. I bet you I can find power being taught on a DVD, or ISO, or Zone, or a hitch route… What exactly do you mean by a DVD playbook anyways? A successful playbook? Last time I checked, the coaches still have to coach and get their players to execute those plays, whether its from a “dvd” a power point, a college playbook, a 1950′s playbook, or anything for that matter…
Sure buddy.
The wing T is the most successful high school offense. Get out from under your rock. It doesnt mean i want to watch it in an all star game. The gane should have a mix of I, Shotgun, and Power Formations. Each kid offensively can show their talents. Let’s be creative. If the coaches want to coach from a dvd case then they should put a few different cases together.
How could Fairfield not get Milano from NC or Wilson from Norwalk to play?? By far the 2 best senior QBs in the confrence last season and neither has left for their respective schools yet (Milano to Middlebury & Wilson to Central Connecticut State). Shame on whoever runs this on the Fairfield side. Those 2 and many more from NC, Norwalk, Staples or Ridgefield (the only schools from the confrence last yr to go to states) are better than half the kids on those rosters.
The Head Coaches gives the names of the players to the coaches and then they call the kids and ask some kids want and love to play. and others just don’t want to. Plus some college coaches don’t want this kids playing. and others look at it has a way to get in shape before they report to they schools.
this is honestly the stupidest thing in the world, half of these kids aren’t worthy of stepping onto an “all star” field. seriously? oxford? barlow? westhill? these three teams combined for SIX TOTAL WINS out of 30. how could they possibly have “all stars”
@random you are so wrong. Some of the famous all stars do not want to play because they are afraid of competition. A team record does not mean a single player is not good.
You must have gotten a good grade in home economics.
It’s an all-star game folks
New Canaan participation in these things has been low forever
There’s just zero interest
Not sure if it’s the case this year, but summer lacrosse plays a part in a lot of this as well
Who is the fairfield coach?? Never herd of him. Can anyone tell me about him?
Ned tells me the New Canaan passing league is the same day as NH-FF all star game. Brilliant.
I bet the NC passing league will be better competition – check out the website of teams attending. I thought I saw Daniel Hand, Windsor, and Bloomfield on there before but they must have backed out? Maybe they cant get enough kids…
http://www.ramfootball.com/gripitandripit.html
Looks pretty cool, just not real football… This would be great if all the teams like Xavier, Hand, Ansonia, Staples, Ridgefield, etc… all took part.
Pat and SPB both make good points, the fact that the All-star game and rip it n’ grip it are on the same day is dumb. Although the many attendees at each event won’t overlap they’re definitely a decent number of spectators who would, not to mention the participants in the passing league, who may forgo the trip to Ken Strong. I agree with McGroin about the Passing tournament, with the weakness of the Fairfield County team, you are liable to see better talent and competition at New Canaan High come Saturday. Shame Windsor isn’t going, think they are again the cream of the State outside of the traditional southern CT powers.
Here we go again with a genius quote from perspective. It seems like this SWC lover tries to cut on the FCIAC in any way possible. Get rid of your inferiority complex with the leagues. FCIAC is better! Simple as that.
Hey Tiger- no doubt the FCIAC is better, but all I am saying is you lower county guys are too busy vacationing on Nantucket or Hilton Head to be bothered with the All Star game. Speaking of your team, where is John Turner. Why no Darien, Staples, or NC kids also. That’s all I am saying, if you weren’t such a Johnny Come Lately you’d happen to see I am actually a big fan of the FCIAC and Ridgefield in particular, my wife teaches down there and I lived there a few years so I gotta little more knowledge and insight than you’re giving me credit for. Get in the weight room son! I don’t wanna see you guys get beasted up front again like you did against Norwalk and Staples
Well said Perspective !!
Pompy what is the word on PHS this year? It seems like a kinda lean season from the outside looking in. Lost a ton of skills and not too many big kids as in past years
I’m a Masuk fan. After the bad coaching in the state loss to ND I jumped ship.
Perspective. I believe you lived there the same way i believe in santa. And as far as me believing in a guy that sits on a ‘blog’ waitng to hype the SWC is how much i believe in the easter bunny. What is a wanna be’s like you last name then? My wife is very active in the school community, ill be able to tell if youre telling the truth.
@ Tigers25 – You guys should really try and get Coach P from Staples. All that talent you guys have had and no State Championship.
As should pomperaug get coach p as offensive coordinator. All the talent you have.
yea I just make stuff up to impress you
all that s@#*t talk and then I am going to out myself and my wife for your personal benefit? She teaches at Scotts Ridge, but again silly girl I just make it up right
Please, then bless us with the knowledge of knowing who your wife is. But first, remember that you have to uncap the plug at the bottom of her foot before you blow her up. Based on your posts and my advanced degrees in psychology i can pinpoint your psychosomatic disorders based on your posts. Your inferiority complex on the FCIAC has run its course. The SWC is doing better then it ever has. And if you’re not satisfied with your son’s schooling then you may transfer him to play football in our league. Secondly, people that post about a wife on an open forum blog means one of two things. 1. You don’t have one and yearn for one or 2. Getting one that would stick with you long enough to get to that point is the most major accomplishment or only accomplishment you ‘ve had or ever had. Having a wife for a man is implied. Millions of us have gone out and socially earned that relationship.
Knowing all of this is how I live in Ridgefield. I tell all the people I come in contact with. ‘If you have to tell people you do, then you really don’t.’ That was the free consulation. I’m easy to find in Fairfield County if you’d like to talk further.
Pompy, out head coach is fine. We haven’t had the best talent around. I liked what I saw from the players in our incoming soph class. Lot of potential and TIGER PRIDE.
Easy on the man @Tigers25. You know we all love the ladies.
@Perspective, you must have a job that brings in CHING to afford Ridgefield. Probably lives in the same size house as you Tigers25. So you’re attacking a bear the same size as you on this one. Hehe!
I have a weird feeling that if you did our yourself, you’d still hear crickets. Not everyone who wants to can be. Stick to fake fairfield county (swc)
Alright enough dude you must be like a Hannibal Lechter, a psychotic genius. You seem to have an extremely grandiose sense of self my man. Conclusion: firstly, I’m not bragging bout living in Ridgefield, rented, couldn’t buy baby baller. Second, you seem to put me in my place I will put you in yours: Ridgefield is a New Canaan/ Westport wannabe. In my time in town I met the people who didn’t have their noses in the air who bemoaned the fact that transient noveau riche types like yourself descended on the town because you probably couldn’t quite afford Darien or NC, and you couldn’t scrounge up the taxes for Bedford and Katonah. Lovely downtown though, I miss Genoa and Parma. Please lil tiger, if you are so important, why do you have so much time on your hands? Please analyze this. And yeah for the record I had to buy my first home up here in poor poor SWC country, where people don’t have a distorted sense of self-importance and priorities
Wannabe New Canaan??? I could crack myself up. There’s as much money here. Thanks for alluding to why you couldn’t make it in my town. Get a life and stay off the blog. How did you even afford a house in SWC country with a teachers pay. Shooting high huh? My guess is you live in Monroe. Is your kid the center or something on JV as a senior. Better yet, from your lack of back bone in posts it looks as if your wife calls the shots. Get a life. Go on the espn golf blog or something. Cheer on a sport you even know less about.
Yawn…
Didn’t Masuk beat you guys in regular season and states, tougher kids being one reason, don’t have things handed to them and told how wonderful they are from a young? Nah, my child is far too young, wrong town, and I am not a teacher but your school system does pay handsomely I reap the benefits. My lack of back bone? Please feel free to shed your anonimity sir, and sip a nice cold one later on your porch on Eleven Levels or Teahouse Ln, or whatever Mcmansion subdivision in the Ridge knowing you’re a winner, but like you said if you have to say you are you aren’t
Lets talk about football please, hey SPB any hot stove rumors, injuries, transfers etc. that you can serve up at this point in the pre pre-season?
Give me a few. We’ll see what we can unearth
Any rumor into the REC from Sacred heart transfering to Naugy?
I know that Coggins is at Naugy, and no longer at Sacred Heart, also Naugy has gotten Brandon Kuzcinski, a 6’5″, muscular basketball standout to return to the gridiron. He should be a force at TE and DE. The Greyhounds just might be a contender for the NVL and Class L, maybe
wow fairfield county won. i thought that wasnt possible because all the experts that post here said it couldnt happen. seeing how,,,well nevermind congrats fairfield great job
also seeing how a lot of the roster are kids from the swc must burn up some people. great job by both sides, cant wait for next season, only a month away
Cheshire is in for a VERY long year with that guy calling plays for them,WTF was he thiking tonite?
sorry to digress here… but tiger posts are annoyingly ignorant.
Median house prices by town, (in order from low to high $):
monroe = ~$306k
brookfield = ~$320k
ridgefield = ~$570k
wilton = ~$685kw
weston = ~$736k
westport = ~$900k
new canaan ~$1.1M
darien = ~$1.2M
(*not all FC towns included).
so, according to this may 2012 data, ridgefield is actually more similar to monroe (median price difference of ~$264k) than westport (median price difference of ~$330k). no doubt, ridgefield is a nice town – perspective was in agreement on that and so am i, but not comparable to money in the southern FC neighbors. when available, stats > opinion. sorry tiger. (source: zillow).
p.s. bragging that you grew up in an affluent community speaks to your parents’ accomplishments, not your own. was your dad all-state? analogously irrelevant.
Haha. Patrick. Those who can’t be the rich whine. Keep working hard. Maybe you can move out of Bridgeport.
Thanks Patrick, Its unfortunate that someone has to think that they represent the views and opinions of the people of Ridgefield in such a billigerent and condescending manner. I wish RHS luck this season and they have a lot of potential, but the more I hear and read about Greenwich and based off what I saw of their returning players in 2011 they’re gonna boss em at the Hollow opening night. Callahan’s seniors and juniors were both undefeated as frosh and did so in impressive fashion but I just am really down on their offseason program having seen them in the past at state weights (some kids so weak I question if they just were there to fill a weight class), I mean 170 bench and 145 power clean as junior or senior? and just their small (bulk not height) in person. They aren’t progressing as they should be and that’s an indictment of that staff
Nice try on trying to disguise yourself perspective. No one agrees with your nonsense. The Monroe thing hit a little too close to home. Probably a river rat from monroe or southbury. Laughable.
Newtown has a ton of players coming back along with last year’s frosh who haven’t lost since like 3rd grade! Love Hebert, kid is just a baller plain and simple, just has a great feel for the game, and slotting Tarantino in a a soph last year will only benefit him this year, can they finally return to dominating the SWC, and get out of Masuk’s shadow?
Hate to tell ya bro but that wasn’t me, for real ha ha, honestly dude the only blog I have multiple names is le NVL blog, and we know a true elitist like yourself couldn’t possible be involved in following such post-industrial, blue collar communities over in da Valley. But seriously, let’s bury the hatchet at Luc’s perhaps, I could go for their steak bernaise with pomme frites and a nice Bordeaux- whaddya say?
Dude don’t change for anybody Tiger, I know your proud of that beat-up two bedroom you scrounged to buy on Bennett’s Farm, you could of got a lot more for your money in SWC country but Ridgefield sounds good rolling off the tounge
I know the school where your wife works at. My daughter went there. There’s a lot of whales at that school. I’m sure that one of those is yours. I’m assuming you havent seen the houses near silver spring cc. Haha
oooh you live down there? Yea cannot knock that portion of the Ridge, would think they’d be districted to East Ridge but whatever, love all those streets, Olmstead etc. congrats bro and please knock it off I feel stupid for having brought myself down to your level and i would prefer not to be baited into anymore petty b.s. that is I am sure annoying other bloggers and taking away from what this blog is for the discussion of hs football! Nice towns don’t always claim superiority in that regard because Ansonia would kick Ridge’s ass into next year and a yuppie like you would have to hold his nose if he stepped into A-town
Don’t worry perspective. It’s all just a blog. I’ll lay off you, until you start rooting for two leagues again. Ansonia/Ridgefield would be a great game this year. I personally think Ridge would be a touchdown or two better.
Other than perspective (who can’t afford to live here) does anyone have an opinion on Ridgefield? I know they’ve been at camps. I think they looked excellent at Central. Your opinions?
they eating steel under the tiger hollow bleachers? I think if the opinions of the bloggers was limited to those who could afford the Ridge, hardly any of us except you and a few others could entertain the masses with their opinions
No. Just yours is disqualified. Do I really have to go over your disqualifications to Ridgefield.
This is tedious
Let me put this chubby chasing low class wanna be in his place. He’s a black eye on SWC and FCIAC people/football. He wants to come into my community on a teaching salary. When those type of people came into town it ruined or small wealthy community feel.
SPB tedious? This is insane, I come here to normally seek refuge from the lunacy of the NVL blog but wow, can scrimmages start soon? haha
Why is there so much bashing on here and so much misinformation? I love how people know how a team’s off season weight training works when they are not even there!!! RHS gets beasted up front by Norwalk? Look at the total yardage gained in that game by RHS? Saying they got beasted is ridiculous and how many points did Greenwich score in that game on O??? Beasted?? Really?????? Some teams have size based on pure height weight and some dont have that in certain years- this cant be controlled as you cannot make a 170 or 185 pounder a 225 pounder- aint happening & only can make them as athletic/strong as possible.
RIdgefield can win. They have eight or ten seniors who can play then eight or ten juniors ho n play. Alos their sophomore class has four or five verygood athletes who could contribute steadily this year when needed. All of these kids can play both sdes of the balll
Fball 5 I have seen RHS at past state weight competitions, your 201-220 entry in 2010 (Duncan Cozens, good player by the way) benched 170! You guys lifted 8,600 lbs in 2011, that 131 lb per player and I am sure that a strong kid like Turner made up for a lot of weaker spots. Isn’t giving up 7 sacks vs. Norwalk and having Staple’s 2nd string RB run for 350 beasted up front?
Weights don’t matter as much as winning does and that team went 8 and 2 with their starting outside linebacker out for the season, their best lineman hurt for three quarters of the season, and still managed to make the state playoffs one of the only FCIAC teams to do that as a LL. We go the last spot in the playoffs instead of Greewnich.
Fball and ridge, dont bother with this guy. He’ll end up telling you how his large wife is a teacher and how he lived on our streets and ate at our restaurants.
Maybe Ridgefield’s offseason program isnt great because they play by the rules and dont run their offense and defense 12 months a year… hint hint staples, nc…
LOL.. Weight Comp?? The one many guys participate in after winter season in which they are not lifting much??? Are we talking about weight comps? Really? Teams are also missing many guys for that because its always right after winter season and during SATS.. Can u name some of the lifts or max weights of other guys? And 3-4 of those sacks were from bad snaps from a 3rd string center so good work bud you really are good at making generalizations.. Probably another angry parent who knows nothing and is mad because their child is not what they thought
ha ha then why are other squads so much stronger? you think RHS is the only school where kids play multiple sports? Just make sure all of you are on here in the fall making excuses
