Just a couple changes in the NHR’s Top 10 as we head into Week 2.
1. Hand lost a first-place vote.
2. Xavier gained two first-place votes.
3. New Canaan jumped two spots to No. 8
4. Kyle Brennan of the NVL Football Bog has joined the roll. Welcome.
Also, The Day of New London’s Top 10 Coaches Poll made its debut today. It’s similar at the top, much different at the bottom (including some love for the Westies and Masuk. We approve.)
So, let’s get pollin’!

great to see new canaan hop back up to where they should be. proved that they still can fire from all cylinders. dont know whether staples looked sub par, or st joes is a serious fciac threat to take down some big teams
Lets be honest hear new canaan, its a solid top 20 team, they’ll be out of the top ten in three weeks when their schedule gets interesting.
nc should be top 3 please explain why they aren’t???
@Jay – They lost the entire team from last year. We are in “wait and see” mode. And we won’t “see” for a very, very long time.
NC will lose to St Joes, Stamford and Darien… mark it down folks.
Imagine that you win your first game 49-6, a game in which your QB goes 16 of 18 for +300 yds and 6 TDs and yet you lose a spot in the writers top 10 standings by a previously unranked team. The folks at Berlin dont have to imagine it. They are living it. They got jumped in the writers poll by a team whose only accomplishment in week one was a win over a program that as best i can tell has won 2 games in the past 3 yrs. Go figure.
Also, NC will be in tighter than expected games with Wilton, Norwalk and McMahon. These programs are catching up and will be a tougher W without Milano and all those experienced classmates. Wilton in particular could be a physical challenge upfront and Phillips is a gamer, especially when it is NC-time. We’ll see how the Rams reload this year – it will be interesting. Many of their opponents are also reloading with juniors so it may come down to the Lou-factor in a bunch of games. He is a legend and this year will be about teaching. The schedule is very friendly in that regard.
@Northern CT Fan – that is Lou’s magic with the media … welcome to our world. Berlin I hear is the real deal. BTW, your team is my pick to take M states this year. Good luck in the season.
Bassick was a lot better than they had been in the past… 10x better than when Marcucio was there… I think they are on the rise, will surprise people with the effort they put forth. Unfortunately their record may wind up being the same, but they will give a few people a scare.
Prediction for week 2, Hillhouse beats Hand. Hand doesn’t look like the tough team of last year, too many individuals not enough role guys. The House has great athletes and team speed, they are not afraid of the Tigers!
Hand might be 4th best team in SCC this yr and still win Class L title. If Xavier dont beat WH they go undeafeated..
Their schedule
