It was not pretty at Jack Casagrande Field Saturday but McMahon moves to 4-0 after beating Westhill 21-15.
The Vikings had a chance to win after recovering a Senators fumble with 1:25 to play, but had a pass intercepted on the 5-yard line with under 10 seconds to play.
It was a defensive battle all the way with McMahon only scoring after a fumble gave them good field position, on a blocked punt recovered in the end zone and after a bad snap on a punt gave them the ball inside the 20.
Westhill played much better in the second half, they could not play worse, having -6 yards in the first half according to my calculations (I included lost yardage on the bad snap on the punt).
- The Vikings had 12 players arrive just 10 minutes before game time, including QB Ryan Coppolla and WR Evan Skoparantzos, after taking the SATs in Stamford. Westhill maybe should have asked for game to be played at 4 so they didn’t have to cut it so close.
- Westhill does handle the end of game 2-minute drill pretty well. It’s the second game I have seen it in action and they have gotten points out of it two of the three times they have run it.
- McMahon had the jersey of Tre Forney on their bench after the senior went down with a season ending injury last week.
