Danbury football team to hold Cancer Awareness Night

The Danbury High football team is hosting a “pink-out” for Friday’s Breast Cancer Awareness game against Westhill, which is also the Hatters’ senior night, according to a release from the DHS Gridiron Club.

Seniors Tristan Jakobson, Matt Baker, Jacob Reich, Mike Reid, Yohan dos Santos and Jason Thatch raised more than $500 selling some 200 pink T-shirts to staff members and students. Those funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

“We wanted to do something special this year and these shirts seemed like a great way to help school spirit and help a worthy cause” said Reich.

“We were really excited by the support from the students,” said Jakobson.

Added Danbury High athletic director Chip Salvestrini: “These are the kinds of things we encourage our student athletes to do. It’s a privilege to play interscholastic sports and these young men recognize that with this privilege comes the responsibility to give back to our school and our society.”

Anyone admitted to the game wearing one of the T-shirts will be charged only $1 admission.
