After four time changes and three cancellations, the Class LL final between Fairfield Prep and Southington is ready to kick off.
The game that was originally scheduled for last Saturday night at Central Connecticut State, then moved up five hours, then pushed to Sunday, then pushed to Monday — all because of the weekend snowstorm — will be played Thursday. The CIAC tweeted this afternoon that “#ClassLL Final is on as scheduled tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at West Haven HS.”
So, there you have it. Football will be played. Finally.
How will the unexpected delay affect both squads? Prep last played 11 days ago, as did Southington.
I’m not sure, but I’ll be curious to find out. No one wants to settle for a co-championship anyways.
Here’s the statement from the CIAC:
Following a survey of the playing surface and facility at West Haven High School by members of the CIAC football committee, the Class LL final between Southington and Fairfield Prep will be played Thursday December 19 at 6:35 at West Haven as scheduled.
After exhaustive work by the West Haven facilities staff over the last several days, the field will be in condition suitable for a championship game on Thursday evening.
“The folks at West Haven have done a tremendous job under difficult conditions to get the field and the facility ready for competition,” stated CIAC Associate Executive Director Paul Hoey. “We are excited that the weather seems to have finally cooperated, and that Fairfield Prep and Southington will be able to play and determine a Class LL champion tomorrow evening.”
Tickets purchased online for the game as it was originally scheduled will be honored, and presale tickets can still be purchased at http://ciacsports.ticketleap.com.
