The FCIAC Championship game will move to a Saturday for the 2014 season after a meeting of the FCIAC Board of Directors.
The game will be played Saturday, Nov. 22 during the day at a site to be determined.
The decision to move the game was so it could be showcased as a stand-alone game on Saturday and to make it easier for working parents to get to the game instead of leaving work and fighting Fairfield County traffic to make a 7 p.m. kickoff.
“What they wanted to do was feature the game,” New Canaan coach Lou Marinelli said. “On Friday it is difficult for people to get to the game after work but if it is at noon on Saturday more people are likely to come. You stand a better chance at a good crowd and you have an opportunity to have it be the featured game.”
The game has been played at McDougall Stadium in Trumbull the last few seasons and was played at historic Boyle Stadium in Stamford prior to that.
Talks to move the game back to its traditional home on Thanksgiving were tabled.
