John Murphy, middle, resigned after one season coaching New Milford.

John Murphy’s time at New Milford is over after just one season.
Murphy confirmed Monday afternoon that he has resigned as the Green Wave’s football coach for “personal reasons,” after leading the team to a 4-7 record in 2013.
“It was a good experience from a lot of wonderful people,” the 46-year-old Murphy said.
Murphy’s hire last year came with plenty of optimism for a New Milford program that had posted only four winning seasons since 1994. Murphy spent the previous 16 years at Masuk, where he went 158-33-1 and coached the Panthers to three state championships and six South-West Conference crowns.
He’s uncertain about his next step.
“I don’t know, to be honest with you,” Murphy said. “I really don’t know what I’m going to do next. I’ll figure something out.”
Murphy also left his position as New Milford’s girls lacrosse coach.
New Milford athletic director Keith Lipinsky could not be reached for comment on Monday.
