Ansonia has a history of sending kids to the next level and succeeding! My point was that he is a D1 tailback! One bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch.

Very good point Boss Blog... Ansonia players are promoted wayy too much and they end up not turning out. Why don't we market other top players that will play and make it academically as well as on the field.

CT gets no love because we never had a FBS football program, UConn is the fastest growing football team ever, we have kids going FBS more than ever. Perhaps one of the greatest defensive ends ever is from CT, a kid by the name of Aaron Hernandez just caught a TD pass in the super bowl, CT wait for us to get on the map. NJ has great ayers no doubt but let us have as many kids in CT as you have. Pasqualoni is a CT guy and believe more CT kids will be in the scene. Xavier has a kid starting for the lions and Moffit starts for the Seahawks.

Don't get too cocky I would have taken my 2006 team and played anyone on jersey we had rock solid 300 pounders that can lift a house, how's UConn been takin it to Rutgers lately

Here is an aggregation of the stats above that produces an even more striking difference:

Region / Population / D1 Signings:

NY&NJ&New England / 42.8 million / 79
Southeast / 41.3 million / 739

@33 - sorry to jump on you. Having grown up in a state where football is "big" (i.e., not CT), it is striking to me how many good players in the Northeast don't get recruited elsewhere. I agree with everyone that a 5-star guy will be found no matter where he is, but the lower rated "work-horse" from New England is often over-looked. I am not saying that CT has more athletes than a state like North Carolina, but that only six D1 offers seems really low. Many of the 3-star rated kids in "big" football states would struggle to get noticed enough even to get a 2-star in CT. People say that media coverage doesn't matter, but when an elite D1 coach is giving out a scholarship he can't risk showing many 2-stars on the offer list. Everyone uses that Rivals system to rank recruiting success and coaches have no incentive to take a risk on some "2-star kid from CT" ... and people need to realize it has a similar impact on UConn taking CT kids. So we seem to have a disproportionate number of really good players go to prep school each year with "no stars" and then in one season suddenly become a "3-star" recruit ... just doesn't make sense, other than Rivals doesn't cover New England very well and has to rely on the prep schools to do their work. And yes, as someone pointed out, the Ivy League, Patriot League and NESCAC (all non-scholarship programs) gladly snap up New England's "2-star" atheltes. Anyway, this is an interesting thread and folks views from out of region are valuable. So, thanks, CT Yankee.

"it is guys like you and your twin from the NH register that put these Ansonia kids in positions they don’t have any right being in. You really have no idea what a D1 TB is…………….Montrell Dobbs………not even close"

@22- Great point about the Grizz. That is a unique program, one I'm sure will be emulated throughout the country starting very soon. Bernie Armstrong has been active in CT football for a long time and his connections with local high schools and colleges are giving kids a second chance at improving their grades without going the more expensive juco or prep school routes. They even won a "national championship" this season, finishing ahead of club teams from the likes of Clemson, North Carolina and Ohio St. I'd like to see this program get some more exposure because it is full of local kids playing at a higher level.

What states have the most national merit scholars? Ivy league and comparable students?PhDs? I love fball as much as anyone, but a lot of the bigtime football states put a ridiculous amount of resources into a GAME.

@25 - Not sure how you read my comment and thought that I was comparing conferences. Rather, I provided a list of 3 D-1 conferences; "If you are good enough to play in the SEC, Big 12, ACC or any other conference they will find you". As a matter of fact, if you look closely you might notice that the three conferences mentioned by name are listed in descending order based on conference strength. Let's hope I can get my "creditability" restored.
