Big Frank

I was running around Stamford yesterday covering the aftermath of Saturday’s big storm. As you all know by now, it was a mess and getting around town was problematic.

CHECK OUT: A slideshow of the damage here.

Another year at the Westminster. It’s crazy down there, I love this assignment.

Eye of the Tiger

ABOVE: Emanuel Lai, 7, of Greenwich, shouts “rock on” after he and other students from the Chinese Language School of Connecticut performed a traditional Chinese song during the Year of the Tiger Chinese New Year Festival at the Stamford Plaza Hotel and Conference Center.

2/7/2010

Emanuel Lai was in full rock-star mode as he and fellow classmates performed a traditional Chinese song during the dragon dance.

I don’t imagine air guitar is a staple any other Chinese New Year festivals, but I certainly got pretty good laugh out of it.

1/18/2010

I have never covered the Annual MLK March in Stamford before, so I guess even going into my seventh year at the Advocate, there still are some firsts.

The weather was beautiful, the marchers were in good spirits and there were a lot of familiar faces in the crowd – including former Police Chief Brent Larrabee who is sporting a goatee now that he is no longer in uniform.

Galbert has been able to reach some of his family members by phone but many others, including his grandmother have been unreacheable and their conditions are unknown.

I covered the shortest parade in Stamford today. The Pulaski Day Parade, held in honor of military commander Kazimierz Pułaski and is a celebration of Polish pride and culture.

The parade though, only goes from the parking lot a few yards down Washington Blvd. from the church and procedes into the 10 a.m. mass.

9/18/2009

It’s officially football season in Stamford, with the SHS Black Knights taking on Ridgefield in the FCIAC opener at Boyle Stadium.

I’ve been seriously neglecting inSight – our staff photoblog – for some time now. So much so that Advocate staffer Kathleen O’Rourke has been making rumblings about taking it over as her own.

But like fall FCIAC gridiron action, I’m back, baby!

MILK CRATE IMAGINATION

When I was a little kid my favorite toy was a cardboard box with a Frisbee bolted to the inside of it for a steering wheel. That thing was fast, even if it didn’t go anywhere. So I was excited to see a kid at this Mini event, proving that even in an era of helicopter parenting and ridiculously expensive and complicated toys, all it takes is an old steering wheel, a milk crate and your imagination to have some fun.
