A game is not a game if there is not a crowd and nothing draws a crowd like a cross-town rivalry. Westhill fans rose to the occasion as the school hosted Stamford in a boys basketball game, fans of both teams turned out in droves.

Stars pay tribute to Ralph MacDonald

Grammy Award-winning percussionist and composer Ralph MacDonald’s rhythms rolled into the Palace Theater as artists flocked to perform a musical tribute Monday evening. Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, Roberta Flack, Dennis Collins and Bobbi Humphrey joined throngs of percussionists in a private ceremony memorializing MacDonald who died Dec. 18. MacDonald earned multiple Grammys for work including ‘Calypso Breakdown,’ ‘Just The Two of Us’ and ‘Where is The Love.’ Valerie Simpson and her late husband Nick Ashford collaborated with MacDonald on numerous hits including “Solid.” Simpson, above, donning the best shoes to cross the stage all night, performs “Trade Winds” at the Palace.

An all-American ride

Ryan Knapp and Nicole Dzamko are ready to ride as they wait for the annual 9-11 Connecticut United Ride which set out from Norden Industrial Park in Norwalk, Conn. More than 3,000 bikers fired up their bikes and thundered along 60 miles and 10 Fairfield County towns before ending in Bridgeport’s Seaside Park.
