In Sight

Shot this today for a feature on craft butchers. I’ve photographed butchers before, but seeing the skinned carcasses never fails to shock me a little.

I photographed a long abandoned factory in Milford for a series that we’re running on vacant properties. When I first saw the metal ceiling pieces hanging in this hallway I thought they looked like a gueriilla art installation.

During a little down time in wrestling action at Staples High School in Westport, Conn. on Saturday January 28, 2012, Fairfield Ludlowe student and scorekeeper Claire Burns decided to try on the head gear of the wrestler’s.

A game is not a game if there is not a crowd and nothing draws a crowd like a cross-town rivalry. Westhill fans rose to the occasion as the school hosted Stamford in a boys basketball game, fans of both teams turned out in droves.

Life can be stressful for volunteer firemen, always wondering what the next fire call can bring.

But last Friday night, the men and women of Water Witch Hose Co. 2 in New Milford held their annual dinner dance and throwing caution to the wind, let it fly!

Gandhi

Gandhi is my standard poodle. He loves to run a lot.  But with snow, it is off the limit.  You can never stop him.

Danbury’s match against Trumbull was my first wrestling match I have covered in a few years. Though, growing up in Iowa I was surrounded by wrestling. Some consider University of Iowa and Iowa State University powerhouse schools for wrestling. Some might call it a religion in the midwest. I covered the state championships in Iowa and photographed it on and off around the country since. But at Danbury I was thrown for a loop when I arrived. The gymnasium I found myself in looked more like a theater. The room was dark except for a lone light in the middle of the gym. I knew right away that this was going to be a challenge to get a publishable image. I knew I had to wait for the wrestlers to maneuver into the light.

Before long, I stopped waiting for the wrestlers to maneuver into the light and I used the light to create a mood and to make abstract photographs that satisified my curiosity with the light.
