Snow day, again

A cross country skier makes his way through the freshly fallen snow at Waveny Park in New Canaan, Conn. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.

Kathleen O’Rourke/The Advocate

Another day of school closings, no high school sports and snow enterprise.  Despite having multiple snowstorms this winter, today felt different.  The snow hung on the trees in the dense woods at Waveny Park and provided beautiful photo opportunities at every turn.  I was going for the straight landscape scene but lucked out as this skier glided by.

Eye of the Tiger

ABOVE: Emanuel Lai, 7, of Greenwich, shouts “rock on” after he and other students from the Chinese Language School of Connecticut performed a traditional Chinese song during the Year of the Tiger Chinese New Year Festival at the Stamford Plaza Hotel and Conference Center.

2/7/2010

Emanuel Lai was in full rock-star mode as he and fellow classmates performed a traditional Chinese song during the dragon dance.

I don’t imagine air guitar is a staple any other Chinese New Year festivals, but I certainly got pretty good laugh out of it.

I have never covered the Annual MLK March in Stamford before, so I guess even going into my seventh year at the Advocate, there still are some firsts.

The weather was beautiful, the marchers were in good spirits and there were a lot of familiar faces in the crowd – including former Police Chief Brent Larrabee who is sporting a goatee now that he is no longer in uniform.

Advocate staff photographers Bob Luckey, Chris Preovolos and I have put together our favorite images from 2009. They depict moments that touched us, thrilled us and simply made us stop and say “This is a pretty cool job.” Enjoy and Happy 2010!
