Tickets go on sale for Rowayton House Tour 2011

by:

The Rowayton Civic Association’s Rowayton House Tour returns on Friday, September 23rd, 10am-2pm.  Join them for their second tour of the homes of Rowayton. If you were able to attend during their last tour, you would have enjoyed the Coastal Charm of Rowayton on a beautiful Indian summer day.

September by the Sea was a great success and the RCA looks forward to showcasing other homes and neighborhoods in Rowayton.

Plan on walking from one lovely home to the next and stopping by our designer boutique at the end of the tour.

House Tour tickets go on sale starting Tuesday, August 23rd at the RCA’s website www.rowaytonct.com and at these retail locations:

  • Good Food Good Things, Darien,
  • Pimlico, New Canaan,
  • Rowayton Market, Rowayton and
  • Bungalow, Westport.

Tickets are $45 in advance, and $55 the day of the tour.

Also, new in 2011, you can purchase additional tickets for a boxed lunch at Roton Point Association at $20 per guest.  Tickets for the lunch are limited and must be purchased in advance by September 19th.

There is also a “Tour” Boutique featuring local artisans and designers.

P.S.  The RCA is looking for volunteers on this event.  It took many volunteers to make the tour a success. Most volunteers were able to work and enjoy the tour, and the RCA received terrific feedback about how it was enjoyed by all involved. You can sign up to work in one of the homes, sell tickets or help in many other ways. For more information on the tour, or to volunteer, contact Barbara Yallop at 857-0804 or Sarina Galu at 249-6000.

You Did It!… 500lbs of PB&J! Thank YOU, Rowayton!

by:

You Did It!

Rowayton residents have come to the aid to those in need… once again. This summer, the Rowayton Library partnered with AlphaGraphics in their 3rd Annual “Fight Hunger Campaign” by collecting donations of Peanut Butter & Jelly for the Christian Community Action, Norwalk (CCA) Food Pantry.  The Rowayton Library’s goal was to collect 500 pounds of jars of Peanut Butter & Jelly for this campaign.

And, yes, YOU did it!  The residents of Rowayton donated more than 500 pounds of jars of Peanut Butter & Jelly.  Thank you, everyone!

You Did It… Again… Rowayton… more than 4,000 books donated to help Hurricane Katrina victims

by:

More than 4,000 books donated!

There are children in New Orleans who are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina.

Over 80% of schools were damaged by Hurricane Katrina. In the most underserved areas, there’s 1 book for every 300 children.

The Rowayton Library teamed up with Better World Books to change that and have joined in on the Epic Book Drive.   The goal was to send 3,000 books.

And yes, YOU did it!

Thanks to the incredible book donations by the Rowayton residents, the Rowayton Library was able to fill 200 boxes (containing more than 4,000 books) to send.

To date, the Epic Book Drive has collected over 250,000 books to benefit the Recovery School District in New Orleans. Thousands of useful books are being donated, and the rest are being sold to raise funds for the school libraries.

Thank you, everyone!  Thank you, thank you, thank YOU!

Walking Routes Around Rowayton

by:

Rowayton is a wonderful place to take a walk.  Everyone knows it.  No matter what the season, it is always a pleasure to admire the scenery.

In an effort to encourage physical activity, the Healthy Lifestyles Committee of the Healthy Norwalk Partnership has created “Become a NorWALKER”, a neighborhood walking program.

Rowayton Walking Maps

The City of Norwalk Health Department has mapped out walking routes in order to encourage residents to incorporate activity in their daily lives. Some routes include information on areas of historical significance, while others point out environmental areas of interest.

There are several routes mapped out in Rowayton ranging from a 1 mile route which is wheelchair and stroller-friendly to longer walking routes of 1.5 and 3 miles in length.

These maps are free and available at the Rowayton Library or online or click below.  Come pick one up or go to www.Rowayton.org and click on Rowayton Walking Maps and then take a walk.
