First Baptist honors pastor

First Baptist Church on North Street, Milford will have a two day celebration this weekend honoring the Rev. Dr. Calvin E. Robinson, Jr. on his fifth anniversary here.

A luncheon at the Trumbull Marriott at 11:30 a.m. features, among others, Mike Goodwin of Columbia, SC , a Christian comedianwho “uses his comedic gift and wit in a style and delivery that is as clean as his bowties.  It is sure to be an afternoon of good, guilt-free giggles.”

On Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. worship service at the church, Rev. Horace A. Hough of Messiah Baptist Church in Bridgeport will be the guest preacher.  A reception will held in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the morning service. Pastor Robinson, a native of Pamplico, SC  also serves on several boards including  the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention where he serves as president of the Board of Trustees for the Christian Leadership School. He is also president of the Board of Christian Education for the Levite Association.

He is also a volunteer counselor for AIDS Interfaith in New Haven and serves as a member of the Board of Directors for United Way of Milford.

Robinson has a Masters of Arts degree in Procurement and Acquisitions Management from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri.  He and his wife, Ann, have 3 children and reside in Milford.

First Baptist Church was established in Milford in 1893 and is located in the heart of the historic district.  It is the oldest African American congregation in Milford.  “A church with a heart, in the heart of Milford.”
