The Milford Prevention Council and Bridges will share in a $375,000 federal Drug Free Communities grant secured by U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro.
The $125,000 from the grant that will be coming here “will be used to support the mission to reduce underage drinking and substance abuse through prevention education, the support of law enforcement and the strengthening of our community collaboration,” said Wendy Gibbons, Milford Prevention Council director.
Agencies in Durham-Middlefield and Guilford will also share in the grant.
“The future of America is largely dependent on the ability of young people to make decisions that will help keep them healthy and safe,” DeLauro said.
“Preventing youth drug use is especially important in light of recent research that found early, persistent marijuana users showed a permanent drop in IQ of eight points. We must focus on preventing youth drug use if the United States wants to remain a global leader.”
