Steps program, um, steps off on Saturday

The Step by Step to a Healthier Milford program, a fitness initiative developed by the Health & Wellness Council of the Milford Chamber of Commerce, will begin its third season on Saturday.

The 6-week  self-monitoring walking program enrolled 100 participants last year, who walked a combined 4 million steps.

Walkers pay a $20 registration fee and receive a pedometer, goodie bag, and free gym club memberships to the Woodruff YMCA (6 weeks) and LA Fitness (30 days).

The ultimate goal for each individual is to take 10,000 steps per day — the rough equivalent of 5 miles, spokeswoman Priscilla Lynn said.

This year’s program has its opening event Saturday, 9 a.m. at the Walnut Beach Boardwalk.

The Milford Chamber Health and Wellness Council was founded in 2006. It is comprised of entrepreneurs and those working in the health and wellness industry. Monthly meetings are held the second Thursday of the month at the Milford Chamber, 5 Broad St. at 8:30 a.m. For more information visit or call the Milford Chamber at 203-878-0681.
