“Defiant. Determined. Alone.” That’s the catch phrase for “Dear Prudence,” a new play about Connecticut’s official state heroine Prudence Crandall, which will make its world premiere on Friday, just steps off Broadway at the United Solo Theater Festival in Manhattan.
Written by Milford resident Cindy Wolfe Boynton of Milford and performed by Brenda Jacobson of New Haven, “Dear Prudence” brings to vivid life Prudence Crandall—a courageous white woman who three decades before the start of the Civil War established the first integrated school in the US, and then the first school in New England for African-American girls.
It is Boynton’s second play to get a New York City production.
