The city Health Department has closed Gulf Beach for swimming due to high bacteria counts found during water quality tests earlier this week.
Although tides and currents naturally clean the water, heavy rains and other conditions can temporarily raise bacteria levels, said Dr. A. Dennis McBride, the city health director.
The water was tested again today and the results will be available tomorrow.
