The Around the Island Race on Friday of New York Yacht Club’s Annual Regatta presented by Rolex is one of the best sailing events in New England.  Each year, around 100 yachts of all different types – from classics and 12 meters modern racer-cruisers and 100′ racing yachts – parade around Jamestown (Conanicut Island) in a race.  When the weather cooperates as well as it did this year, it’s an absolutely picture-perfect day.  And the best thing about inshore racing in Newport: All of the vantage points for spectators.  From Castle Hill to Fort Adams to Jamestown’s Fort Whetherill Park and more, there are many great places to take in the view.  See the photo highlights from the race here.
