Vol. II, No. 80
Nine teams from Western Long Island Sound made the long, logistically-complex trip to Key West with their boats this past week to race in 75-degree weather, bright sunshine, 15 knots of breeze, and turquoise-blue waters. So it was worth it. The 26th annual Key West Race Week, sponsored this year by Quantum sails, hosts more than 100 boats each year. This year’s teams from Western Long Island Sound included Steve & Heidi Benjamin’s HPR Carkeek 40 Spookie, Andrew and Melissa Fisher’s Swan 42 Bandit, Alex Jackson’s Melges 32 Leenabarca, Daniel Goldberg’s J70 Bazinga!, Michael Zupon’s J70 Loki, Kerry Lingler and Rick Lyall’s J70 Menace, Peter Duncan’s J70 Relative Obscurity, Mark Ploch and Mike Bruno’s J70 Sugar Daddy and G. John Krediet’s J80 Participant III. Local yacht clubs represented include Norwalk, American, Larchmont, Cedar Point, Indian Harbor, Riverside and Seawanhaka. Not bad, LIS sailors!
