Safe Boating Certificate: Print Your Own!

|

Vol. II, No. 90

The DEEP's new online licensing system makes life easier for new boaters.

Safe Boating has gone high tech! Now recent Safe Boating course grads can access their CT Safe Boating Certificates (and/or Certificates of Personal Watercraft Operation) online.  Once the $50 certificate fee has been paid, a user can print his or her own certificate!

A Safe Boating Certificate is required for anybody in CT wishing to operate a boat with an engine, or any boat over 19.5 feet.  The certification process is managed by the CT Department of Energy & Environmental Protection. With this recent change in the licensing process, the DEEP has created a new Online Sportsman Licensing system that issues ID numbers that apply across all “sportsman” credentials: fishing, hunting, and boating. It actually makes a lot of sense!  Here’s the official page with all of the information.

Westport’s Longshore Sailing School certifies many hundreds of boaters each year in adult and junior classes.  Business Manager Matt Kanaga applauds the program, pointing out the increased convenience for the school’s students. “Rather than waiting 4-6 weeks, people can essentially print out their certificate immediately after passing the course.”

The Longshore team is hosting their first one-day Safe Boating course of the season this Saturday.  See more information and the full season schedule here.
