Who cares if the summer solstice is still a month away, and tonight’s low is just 45 degrees? Everybody knows Memorial Day Weekend marks the beginning of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere. For boaters, that means the rush is on to get your boat in the water for the season. But in your haste, don’t forget to check your required equipment. If you don’t address it now, how likely is it that you will remember mid-summer? Here’s a short list of some of the items to check for expiration, improper functionality, and/or excessive wear and tear.

To be sure that you have all of the required equipment in serviceable condition for a vessel of your size, it’s best to consult the 2014 Connecticut Boater’s Guide. The chapter on Required Equipment will help you ensure that you have everything you need for your size vessel.
