He’s preaching right-wing nonsense about medical malpractice lawsuits – with a clever but completely obnoxious ad:
This isn’t going to win him the Democratic nomination – Democrats know that restricting the right of injured parties to sue for compensation for their injuries is undemocratic.

“This isn’t going to win him the Democratic nomination – Democrats know that restricting th right of injured parties to sue for compensation foor their injuries is undemocratic.”
I hope that Obama doesn’t make us eat those words by the time this healthcare conference is out today.

It’s true – he has offered it up in exchange for bi-partisan support.

Just read Marconi’s Web site about it. The right wing says tort reform is the answer to health care problems. Marconi specifically does not. He wants to cap noneconomic damages and make sure suits aren’t frivolous. Howard Dean pointed out that the only reason the Dems aren’t supporting tort reform is that they’re afraid of personal injury lawyers.

Why is it “right wing nonsense” to be concerned about the alarming shortage of doctors in Connecticut? Connecticut ranks DEAD LAST in the nation for favorable work climate for doctors. Do you really want to drive two towns over to find the nearest pediatrician when your child is sick? Every hospital in thet state is complaining that as soon as their young doctors complete their residency, they leave the state. Connecticut is in the top five states in the country for doctors age 55 and older.
So far, Marconi sounds like the only candidate who cares about what’s happening in CT and isn’t blowing political smoke.

Jonathan, the “us” versus “them” attitude is not going to move Connecticut forward. Rudy should be commended, not chastised for thinking beyond the status quo. He identified a problem, namely the difficult environment for, and exodus of doctors in our state.
If you want to continue the politics of gridlock which have prevailed in CT for way too long, there are other Dems running who will rubber stamp your agenda.

Look, eve if you believe his position is responsible, (and I don’t) this ad is nothing but pandering to right-wingers.

By the way, how do these ads constitute “exploration” vs. campaigning for office?

Keeping doctors in Connecticut is “pandering to right wingers?” What planet are you from? Rudy is pro-choice, pro-education, pro-jobs. And for keeping quality healthcare available and affordable. Sounds like a good Dem to me. Open your mind Jon. You might learn something.

Since when is common sense considered to be right wing nonsense? It is not nonsense to want to lower medical liability insurance.
By capping non-economic damages, stopping frivolous suits, raising standards for expert witnesses, and routing more of the settlement money from the lawyers to the injured parties, Marconi’s approach will protect the rights of the patients, and lower medical insurance premiums, thus helping to keep our doctors here in Connecticut.
Marconi has used common sense to put together his position on tort reform. Not a quality often seen in our politicians.
