Today started out pretty good. I got my morning CT Post from out of the bushes and proceeded to start my coffee. Thursday’s always a good paper day; it’s got the Weekend Entertainment Guide inside. And there they were – the Dropkick Murphys on the front page appearing at Mohegan Sun this Saturday, March 10th.
Ah…memories…it seemed like just yesterday but the date was actually St. Patty’s day weekend, 2001. My son was 13 and the Dropkick Murphys were “big” (very big) with his 8th grade class. As the luck of the Irish would have it, they were performing that very weekend in Boston. Not I, says me (not a fan). OK, I’ll take him says the poor husband (not a fan, either, but the kid can’t go alone.) Dad has a friend, John, who in fact is a fan! So they all go their merry way.
Some stories get embellished and grow over time but for the record this one has remained as follows: John got very drunk; John jumped into the mosh pit and was not seen for the remainder of the night. My son (as you would expect) had a great time. Dad (as you probably would not expect) did too. And for those of you unfamiliar with “moshing,” I have provided a picture.
