Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays! And lucky for me - just around the corner – at the site of the retired alarm bell of the Milford Volunteer Fire Department on the Milford Green, the City will be celebrating our nation’s birthday in a traditional bell ringing ceremony conducted by the Milford Volunteer Fire Department and Troop 721 of the Boy Scouts of America with support of the Milford Girl Scouts. In conjunction with the City and to celebrate our country’s independence, they will conduct the “Let Freedom Ring” National Bell Ringing Ceremony. Festivities begin at 1:00 PM, and folks are encouraged to bring a bell for the 2′ o’clock ringing. The retired alarm bell will be rung 13 times promptly at 2:00 PM to pay tribute to the original 13 colonies who signed the Declaration of Independence. This ringing also honors the brave Patriots who supported the American Revolution and sacrificed their freedom. I hope to see you there. So enjoy your holiday, have a slice of apple pie, drive safely and God bless America!
