Tapped In!

Tapped In

While Greenwich has always been home sweet home, I have had many wonderful opportunities to experience other parts of the country, Bloomington, Indiana among it.  As an undergraduate, I experienced everything from social experience to social science.  It took 10 years but I am finally tapped back in to my post-graduate days!

I caught up with a fabulous old friend  from Indiana University and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sister, Sarah Olson last night at the W Hotel in Union Square to hear about her amazing new project. She is among the amazing group behind the new documentary, “Tapped”  debuting in New York’s IFC Theater in the West Village tomorrow night.

It was great to share a night, laugh at the past and chat about the future. Sarah is among the producers of “Who Killed the Electric Car,”  and her best friend Stephanie Soechtig presenting a wonderful inception into the most basic life sustaining fluid, water, and how it the twists and tangles behind the store bought bottles.

The inspiring documentary trails the path of the bottled water industry and the communities are unwitting chips on the table. A powerful portrait of the lives effected by the bottled water industry, this revelatory film features those caught at the intersection of big business and the public’s right to water.

Talking Tigerlily’s

I have a feeling you may be interested in Talking Tigerlily’s, Tuesday’s guest, Barbara Reader who is a spiritual medium shed light on positive and negative energies in your home. In fact Reader attributes these energies to everything from an unsure feeling when you walk into a room to the inability to sell a home.

In a space that has a “weird” feeling, Reader suggests burning incense or sage and asking the energy that is negative in the room to pass on. At the risk of misinterpreting our conversation I will leave it at that and pass along her contact information. Barbara Reader is a renowned medium and physic counselor. Listen to our conversation on WGCH.COM, Talking Tigerlily’s Archives for July 28th or call Barbara at 212.580.9106.

If you have any great ideas for our show or any questions, contact us at the store, Tigerlily’s in Cos Cob, 241 East Putnam Avenue. Also visit us on the web, tigerlilysgreenwich.com.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week-SOBO

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

I just wrapped up an exciting weekend in South Beach attending two amazing shows for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.  The show not only stayed in the family but stayed true to Greenwich roots. I proudly watched on as my sister, a Greenwich  High School graduate, Alexis Knapp organized and produced the True Religion and Ed Hardy Swimsuit Shows with the help of her staff at Treskoi Public Relations.

True Religion stayed true to its denim and all American feel offering a collection of swimwear in soft suede like materials and neutral tones. A spin on the Dazzy Dukes offered a fresh alternative to a two piece swim set with a showcase of denim bikini boxers attached to a plaid sleeveless shirt. The back of the styled one-piece was open creating a bare bones yet substantial feel to the piece.

I brought along my childhood best friend and talented designer Tiffany Martinez as a sounding board to view both collections. The vibe inside the standing room only venue at the Raleigh Hotel on South Beach was bold with brilliant colors to complement the image of the art deco style the beach is so known for.

The Ed Hardy Swimsuit Collection was a bolder interpretation for baring it all!  President of the company Arie Setton speaks of the line as being true to the brand, offering the same flare, decorative detail and imaging of skulls, birds of paradise, rhinestones consistent with the brand.

There’s one more note to make on this mini Miami stay. I was thrilled to be able to provide a decorative pillow for the show gift bags. Please come into the store at 241 East Putnam Avenue to check out what we gave out! We love to hear from clients and homeowners with decorating ideas and challenges!

Life’s a Beach!

img_8419

Talking Tigerlily’s kicked off with wrap up of Beach Ball at Greenwich Point. The event drew over 400 Old Greenwich and Riverside residents looking to do their part to protect and conserve the beautiful and scenic waterfront. Tigerlily’s created a lounge space in a motif to correspond to the vibrant Lilly Pulitzer themed table settings provided by the preppy retailer.

For our lounge, we juxtaposed a black and white zebra print against the poppy colors Lilly Pulitzer is known for to mix reviews. We loved how the colors bright bounced off the neutral black and white, but on the flip side their were those who felt  the black may have been too dark for such a colorful event. We went with what we loved. What do you think??

FLYING THE FRIENDLY SKIES!

Speaking of the beach, I’m off to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. It’s all in the family and all about Greenwich in Miami as my sister Greenwich High School graduate and  President & CEO of Treskoi PR, Alexis Knapp spearheads the debut of the Ed Hardy Swimsuit Collection. Events start July 17th at the Raleigh with amazing after parties set to celebrate the bikini clad! Tigerlily’s is thrilled to pitch in and promote our brand by providing A-list attendees and Top Notch press with our new incredibly useful Plane & Beach Pillows.

PILLOWThe pillow includes an inflatable insert which makes it a must have for the beach or when traveling by plane. It shrinks down to size! Available now on our website maisonettestore.com. We also feature wonderful “Shade” & “Castle” pillows to perk up your outdoor set up!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Deborah Ponzek Aux Delices

Talking Tigerlily’s also had a chance to sit down with Deborah Ponzek of Aux Delices. She is a celebrated author and internationally-acclaimed chef who brings her talents to her three Aux Delices restaurants in Greenwich, Riverside and Darien. On top of that, Aux Delices runs a cooking school which also hosts parties!

Deborah gave us a few tips to share:

  1. KITCHEN NEWBIE? Focus on fresh ingredients. Starting fresh creates an A+ foundation that can’t  be destroyed even by the cooking challenged.
  2. BBQ MUCH? Only use seasoned or treated coals if you are slow cooking foods like whole chickens and ribs. Using expensive flavored chips for fish wastes money because the food doesn’t stay on the grill long enough!
  3. SOME LIKE IT HOT? When it comes to spices, make sure to look at its shelf life. Ponzek reveals spices need to be replaced every year. Spice looses its spice after one year and should be replaced for best possible flavor.
  4. WANT MORE?  Visit www.auxdelicesfoods.com

Talking Tigerlily’s loves to hear from the community. Have ideas or want to share your design challenge? Drop us a line at sam@tigerlilysgreenwich.com or visit us at the store: 241 East Putnam Avenue. Cos Cob. Ct. 203.629.6510!
