Sam on the Scene with Better TV

Help in the Home Office

Always happy to help, I was thrilled to be invited into the home of Better TV correspondent Rhiannon Ally to dish on decorating. What seemed like a challenging project to redesign a home office for more function and personality fit was made simply by sticking to the basics and incorporating a few new ideas.  Check out how we went from basic to beautiful on a small budget.

Shopping that is easy to Digest!

Like fashion with its big show under the tents of Bryant Park, where sneak peaks are plentiful and new inspirations charge down the runway,  Interior Design has its revered week of resourcing under the careful direction of Architectural Digest and The New York Times. For four days this month, beginning this Thursday the 18th, the team at Architectural Digest kicks off its ninth collaboration of the interior inspirations with 300 vendors at this year’s Home Design Show. Packing Pier 94 until Sunday it is a design diva’ or dudes’ paradise.

I had a chance to sit down with Megan Reilly, marketing director of the event, to get an early scoop on the shopping what consumers can expect.  Reilly explain’s this year’s show as eye candy for both established decorators and those who like to dabble alike. The key to this year’s show, she says is accessibility translated in more then one way. First and foremost there is pricing that ranges from the highs to the lows with cash and carry items like a fire-engine red cappuccino machine that rivals Starbucks.

Making the show easy to navigate, the team devised a version of a pier mapquest with curated tours from members of the American Society for Interior Designers. Indeed, folks will be on hand to help you forge a direct path to the vendors that best suite your needs.  What’s more before you even get to the show floor, you can look at your own floor. Floor plans, that is with complimentary one on one consultations. Design professionals are  scheduled around the clock to lend their expert eye to your project at no cost.

Add to the mix, cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs, design seminars by industry leaders and a strong showcase by 1st Dibbs and there’s has never been a better way to spend the weekend.

I plan on heading out myself and hope to see many familiar faces, get new design ideas that I plan to share with my friends on Talking Tigerlily’s.

Help for Haiti

Help for Haiti

While a distant problem, it is not beyond a local solution. We all have the power and the purse to do what we can to recognize the truly leveling course of events that the already impoverished Haiti  down on its knees.

I will be attending the attached event and hope to see many familiar faces and new ones who understand that community is the basis for all great things. When recognizing and supporting the efforts our own, we do in fact showcase what is truly wonderful about American and what can begin to develop for Haiti. Phoenix rising from the gift of giving in a devastated region forced to start anew.

Talking Tigerlily’s: Sam  Shops with NBCS Scarboroughs!

The Talk at Tigerlily’s brings us back to 2009 when Sam hit the Scene with NBC’s Chuck Scarborough and his wife Ellen for a night of antiquing.  We tagged along with the dynamic couple at the Greenwich Historical Society’s Antiquarius opening night. From small antiques to large statement items, the Old Greenwich Civic Center was packed with world renowned antique dealers.  The Scarboroughs shared inside expert advice on what’s best to buy as a couple and why fundraising for a good cause is so important.

Talking Tigerlily’s Tackles Fitness

Talking Tigerlily’s Tackles Fitness in 2010!

2008_0716speedtraining0101

Talking Tigerlily’s hit the top of the resolution list this Tuesday with a welcome into the new year by personal trainer Ritchard Fewell of REACT Fitness. We all want to start out on the right path and since the ladies of the Lil love the home, we found a personal trainer with tips on slimming down in your own den. Ritchard not only gave us the skinny on how to work your way to a better you, but is giving ONE READER a complimentary consultation and work out to the first local based, Greenwich CT reader who emails us on this blog!

Good luck and in the meantime, learn the tricks of the trade!

Tips of the Trade:

1) Set Realistic Goals: Start by writing down short term and long term goals. Short term goals are daily and weekly objectives. Long term goals are reachable over the duration of a year. This way you don’t get discouraged because you are constantly achieving goals and progressing forward. EX. of a short term goal: Climb stairs, walk a short distance, replace soda with water. EX. of a long term goal: Loosing a targeted amount of weight.

2) Keep a Food Journal: “Don’t bite of more than you can chew”

3) Eliminate the word DIET from your vocab: In react terminology, DIET means “Don’t Incorporate Eating Traps”. Make small changes to your nutritional plan. Start by eliminating high sugar and salt items. Also start to get rid of processed foods and relace them with whole foods like almonds, green veggies, sweet potatos, beans, chicken, oats, grains etc.

4) Start a Good Exercise Routine: There are no excuses! You don’t have to even belong to a gym to get a great workout! Squats, lunges, push-up, abs, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, sprinting, yoga and pilates all can be done with NO equipment. Add resistance bands and a stability ball and you can create a good home workout. Working out in a Gym is good option too. Either way, the key is your moving around and working towards your goal!

5) Believe In Yourself: You can do this!

a) Have a good support group of friends/family people with like minded interest like a workout buddy.

b) Use R.E.A.C.T Lingo: Replace the words can’t, try and maybe with the words CAN, DO and DEFINITELY.

c) Be inspired! Live your life with a purpose. You are doing a great thing for yourself!
