Sam on the Scene at Light A Fire & A Giveaway Gift For Gab….

The Talk at Tigerlily’s

The Talk at Tigerlily’s is the internet and the wonderful sites maintained by some of the most creative and inspiring women worldwide. We got a chance to chat with Amy Allen Clark who is the woman-power behind momadvice.com.

about_photoAmy Allen Clark is a busy mother of two living in Granger, IN raising her children and helping raise awareness on a variety of lifestyle topics on her website daily. She shared some great tips with us on holiday hosting.

HOST THIS HOLIDAY:

Trim the Table: Create a stunning centerpiece with materials you already have on hand – candy, fruit, greenery or pinecones – and fill small vases with related items. To add holiday cheer, incorporate taller vases with bright ornaments, gingerbread cookies or peppermint sticks.

Subtly Set the Mood: Set a scented candle in the foyer to welcome guests with a unique fragrance and create a friendly first impression. Select a comforting scent, such as the Glade Scented Oil Candle in Apple Cinnamon, which has a soothing blend of spiced cider and homemade apple pie. Personalize each room by featuring a different scent.

Lower the Lights: Dim lighting creates an intimate atmosphere for holiday gatherings. Turn lights low and use candles to create the desired effect. Line candles along the mantelpiece or the living room end table to achieve this look effortlessly.

Here Gift of Gab was not only made for a wonderful interview which you can find on wgch.com (hit the Tigerlily’s icon to connect to past podcasts) but presents a gift for those who loved our gab.

Clark put together a wonderful giveaway for one of our lucky listeners. Be the first to comment on this blog with your email contact and win the below:

  • Two Glade® Candles from the Holiday Collection, in Apple Cinnamon and Bayberry Spice – to easily turn your home into a holiday haven
  • Bellagio® Gourmet Cocoa Chocolate Truffle, a true liquid chocolate bar
  • Home Classics® Fleece Throw
  • Mineral Bath Soak Stress and Tension by The Village Company, made from natural lemon oil, rosemary and eucalyptus
  • A Holiday favorite, The Polar Express DVD
  • Woven Strap Small Shelf Tote, great for both stylish display and storage of accessories

Sam on the Scene in Westport

Sam On the Scene

I shopped the scene at Moffly Media’s At Home Magazine Design District to see get a taste of what Westport has to offer. The town is a one stop shop for fashion to home furnishings. There is something for everyone, with Lucy’s catering to of-the-moment pieces that make a wardrobe sing and Henry Lehr’s wide selection simplistic comfortable, neutral staples to create a base for your closet.

To add a finishing touch, Lux Bond & Green’s is ground zero. The pieces there range from celebrity must-haves like bangles in brilliant jewel tones to classic pieces in diamond and pearls.

That’s not all, for more check out the link below:

Inside the Antiquarius After Party @ Ron Rosa’s Louie’s

side shot

From famed news anchor & friend Chuck Scarborough to the “Original Mad Man George Lois” the support for the Greenwich Historical Society’s opening night of Antiquarius was as successful as it was fun. I was thrilled to raise awareness for the event and co-host the Antiquarius After Party with my Greenwich Young Collector’s co-chair, Jen Danzi. It was “Mad” good time thanks to all our sponsors and friends who came out in their best Don Draper Duds to keep with our Mad Men theme.jen & kim

dressed to impress

The Young Collector’s Antiquarius After Party brought out a full house to Ron Rosa’s Louie’s on River Road. Ron Rosa graciously donated the space, food and “Don Draper Drinks” to create a Mad Men themed party that brought the 1960s Ad Age back to life.

The Antiquarius After-Party followed opening night at the Old Greenwich Civic Center. Antiquarius and the season full of events is the Greenwich Historical Society’s biggest fundraising drive of the year.

Sokolsky on Stardom…

It was with great excitement that we invited Melvin Sokolsky on Talking Tigerlily’s this November for a conversation that transgressed his remarkable career in photography into a conversation on content of character, morals, determination, self-esteem and the will to be defined by your passions not by professional pressure.

Fresh faced and new to the industry Melvin launched a career in the early 1960s, taking his work to different agencies and fashion magazines. Feedback came in the form of closed doors and criticism. Industry leaders called his concepts interesting but unusable and were reluctant to take a chance. Still, Sokolsky stayed true to his inspirations and continued to approach those who were initially apprehensive to take his work on with new interpretations of his art. Finally a proposition came in the form of a $150.00 budget, a fur coat and leading Ford model Anne St. Marie.

The shoot ultimately opened doors to Harper’s Bazaar and the doors of his East 39th street studio. Sokolsky photographed celebrities and fashion stars including Lauren Hutton, Chet Baker, Dustin Hoffman, Zero Mostel, Ali MacGraw (who worked for Sokolsky as his stylist and producer for seven years) Twiggy, Jane Fonda, Nancy Allen, Racquel Welch, and Julie Christy.

Taking pictures came easy to Sokolsky.  ”It is only about the work,” he told Talking Tigerlily’s.  ”If the pictures are there, you will be found. If the pictures are not there you may get jobs but you will not ever do anything transcendent unless you do something.”  Sokolsky’s natural ability created in his career space and time to pioneer new grounds and express facets of his creativity that reinforced his art as original and bold.

In 1963, Sokolsky approached Harper’s Bazarr with an installation that would define a period of his career that pushed the bar. The Bubble series for Harper’s Bazaar was what he considered to be signature street photography with a voyeur twist.  ”I saw her as a visitor from another planet in a transparent globe at the speed of light travel traveling through Paris and interacting with the people.”

For more on Sokolsky’s legendary career visit his website, www.sokolsky.com. The site has a link to his new book which is a complete look at his  work up until now. With forty-plus years of imaginary, Sokolsky still has his eye behind the lens, most recently for Italian Vogue.  Melvin has also generously offered to donate a book to the Young Collectors Antiquarius After Party at Louie’s. Antiquarius After-Party following opening night at the Civic Center.  For more information log onto our website greenwichyc.com or the Greenwich Historical Society http://www.hstg.org/

The Westport Wow Factor!

Westport Design District

Calling all you decorating Divas & Dudes!!! Tonight is a night to be inspired by the wonderful design community nestled in the heart of downtown Westport.  Moffly Media has done an incredible job of encouraging the town’s flagship destinations Rockwell Art & Framing,  HB Home, Dovecote, Circa Antiques, Gault, Love & Company, Bungalow, Lux Bond & Green, Kismet, Signorello, Lynne Scalo, Room and Calico Home to open their doors in celebration of all the wonderfully creative ideas, accessories and must-haves that make a home a home.

I am thrilled to be there joined by a camera crew to capture the tips of the trade and the fun of the night, walking the walk of Westport’s Design District.
