Photos of Greenwich Point Conservancy annual dinner at the beach

I was walking along the beach today when I saw an unusual sight – massive party tents set up at Greenwich Point.

The inner reporter in me which is core to every vigilant blogger snooped around and found out it was the annual fund-raiser for the Greenwich Point Conservancy (nice group of people except when they start complaining about silly things like the outside ice machine at Old Greenwich Yacht Club). No one invited me, but it seemed like a nice event. Beautiful spot for a summer gala. I would have easily forked over the money to attend had I known – (tip to GPC: you still have last year’s press release on your site)

The goal this year is to raise money to renovate the “barn” at the beach which houses the science center. The plan is to move the science center to the recently renovated Innis Arden cottage – (none of this info is apparent on the OGC website btw).

There are about 38,000 beach passes in Greenwich. If everyone gave $10, it would help greatly toward achieving that goal. Greenwich Point is Greenwich’s biggest asset. Please give generously. Go to Greenwichpoint.org

  1. Thanks very much for sharing photos of the Greenwich Point Conservancy’s benefit dinner “set up”, known as the “Beach Ball”, on your blog. The weather cooperated and we had a beautiful night for the dinner, which was a big success. The event was sold out to capacity, with 500 in attendance, and raised a lot of money for the Conservancy’s preservation work at Greenwich Point. We will make sure that you are on the invitation list next year, and it should be noted that the event is open to all, and each year invitations and response cards are available and can be downleaded from our website.

he Greenwich Point Conservancy is preparing to begin the final interior restoration work at the Innis Arden Cottage, and next spring the Cottage will be open to the public. As you noted, we are also preparing for next projects at Greenwich Point, as there is much work to do regarding the restoration and preservation of the historic buildings.

The GPC is an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of the profits from our fund raising go directly in to the projects at the Point, as we have no overhead. The restoration work there is of course expensive, and we deeply appreciate the support we receive from the community.

    Thanks again and best regards,
    Chris Franco
    President, GPC
