Lincoln Millstein offers his unique views and insight on Greenwich and its community

Photos of nearly empty Greenwich Island Beach ferry and Arch Street terminal

The bankers, hedgies and media mavens may sleep here, but it’s the Townies who run Greenwich.

They left no doubt about that when their overwrought, xenophobic mutterings prompted First Selectman Peter Tesei to snap to attention and order the local constabulary to weed out the outside agitators polluting the purity of our air. If left unchecked Greenwich would soon be a magnet to gangs, illegal immigrants and Communists. This is not San Francisco!

The last Republican first selectman who failed to heed those warnings – Lolly Prince – paid the ultimate price at the polls and lost – heavens! – to a Democrat! We will have none of that.

The result was an orderly – if almost deserted – Island Beach on Saturday. At least that was the view from the water. Here are the photos:

  1. The town needs to raise the fee for non-residents from $8 per day to $20 or more like other nearby towns. We need not have the slobs from PC crowding out residents.

  2. Too bad we can’t weed out some of the slobs and rude, ignorant Greenwich residents too, lol.

  3. The right to form and operate parks derives not from the authority of the Town government, but from the constitution and the role of State.

Therefore, entrance fees and policies must reflect our relationship to those higher legal entities, and to the actual cost of operation and maintenance paid by the residents, as to differential entry fees, between resident users (or non-users) and non-resident users.

A full audit of costs, fees, entry policies and user demographics is in order to conform to the law. Casual observation, including those of this blog, indicates extreme swings in over-use or under-use.
