Mr. Burgess,

It does not matter who is responsible, it still needs to be done. Start a committee, get some volunteers to start fundraising for the project, get the schools and church across the street to give part of their collections. Ask the garden club to give a portion of funds from their annual plant sale. Yes, on top of that, perhaps someone with big pockets will see the town trying so hard they will swoop in and save the day... But you have to start somewhere.

The last clean-up of the pond cost in excess of one million dollars. The soil is contaminated and must be trucked to a landfill in Pennsylvania. Where is the Town going to get this money? Maybe there is a benefactor out there who will cough up the cash. To truly alleviate the problem, you need silt retention bases at the two water entrances to the pond. These will need to be pumped out periodically which will also be an additional cost. The men in the Parks shed do not have the equipment or the proper permits to remove the silt and sand that comes from run-off from I-95. The soil is polluted due to the truck tires, gas, diesel and oil from the highway. Who is responsible?

All I can say is someone in that town is NOT doing their job. With all the money that town has and they can't keep the park up? Something is very, very wrong. They should be ashamed!

Long overdue. There's a crew in the maintenance bldg next to the rr tracks that could be put to work to do some cleanup and it wld not be costly. In any case no matter how approached, the park needs some meaningful attention--it's one of the finest spots in town. It is not inconsequential to note that the town rents out some of the ball fields to out of town clubs for a "song" just as it charges an inconsequential fee for non residents to spend the day at the beach--- and we the residents get stuck with the real bill for the entire infrastructure costs via our taxes!!

That is silt washed into the basin from upstream. Only way to remove it is to dredge the pond. That is not a priority with the town of Greenwich.

The bottom photo appears to be a spot near where a huge tree fell during one of the storms this past year, taking a large part of a neighboring tree with it. The town did a bang-up job cleaning away most of the debris, but it looks like they might not have gone into the mud to get it all. And I agree with the other poster that a good rainfall would clear up most of the stuff visible on the other photos.

Is it withering due to lack of care or lack of rainfall?
Wasn't it a swamp originall, filled in at points to make a park? Maybe Mother Nature is just trying to reclaim it!
