SUMMER STREET UPDATE

5/21/2009

1. According to Barcelona Wine Bar’s twitter feed, they are set to open next Thursday. I walked by today and didn’t see much activity, but I understand they are more or less ready to go.

2. Mary Ann’s Mexican restaurant is open, though I’m still a little skeptical, but that is probably just West-Coast bias.

3. I did make it to Bufalo Wild Wings. To paraphrase reporter Jeff Morganteen’s assessment: if you have “wings” in your name, they better be the best in town. They are not.

The biggest disappointment, however, is the poor beer selection, with Bass ale being the most exotic offering on tap.

KEEP AN EYE OUT: Morganteen promises an upcoming guest-post regarding the state of Buffalo wings in the City of Stamford.

We had shrimp fajitas and chicken enchiladas. I didn’t notice if they had shredded beef enchiladas on the menu, but I hope they do, since it’s also a favorite of mine.

We had both refried beans and black beans, as well as a couple varieties of rice.

I’m no food critic, and I’m definitely not a Mexican food purist. I’m the kind of guy who will happily admit to enjoying a “big messy plate of beef enchiladas.”

I’m thrilled that we have a place like this downtown now…

That said, I’d love to hear you’re picks for the best places in the area…

Oopps. I misread your post. I guess I will have to go check it out myself soon.

    What did you guys get?

Actually, hey, “authentic” is great and all of that, but you know sometimes (like right now) I’d kill for a big messy plate of beef enchiladas. The big variables are if they have shredded beef and some sort of ranch beans, or at least something other than refried (which they do, apparently).

I guess I just sort of have an aversion to the whole hacienda themed restaurant thing, but I should probably get over that, since I’ve had plenty of good meals in those kinds of establishments.

We went over to Mary Ann’s for dinner (okay, we went over for margaritas and had dinner while we were there) tonight.

They soft-opened today @ 5pm with a limited menu, so there were a few items that weren’t available on opening night. Not a big deal for us…

We were pretty pleased with the experience. They were friendly and attentive and were very apologetic for any issues that came up.

I’m not a West-Coast snob, so I imagine we’ll be dining there more often than you…
