I know I have already posted a couple of items about the new coffee shop in Darien, Espresso NEAT, but it’s worth a mention that for a limited time they have added Hacienda Esmeralda Especial to their drip/siphon brewing options.

Esmeralda, a Panamanian coffee which sort of took the coffee world by storm a couple of years back and plays a starring role in the 2008 book God in a Cup, is selling for $5 a cup at NEAT, about twice as much as the other offerings.

The beans themselves retail for about $70 per pound, are available only during brief windows of time and sell out quickly. I first tried this coffee at Cafe Grumpy in New York and the $7 a spent for a cup from their Clover machine is still the most I have ever paid for a single cup of coffee. And it’s totally worth it.

Esmeralda’s highly floral/citrus/blueberry overtones are incredible and while I don’t go for drip coffee that often but I could never pass up a chance to drink this stuff.
