NY eatery Chinese Mirch coming to Atlantic Street

CHINESE MIRCH: 35 ATLANTIC ST., STAMFORD (DEAL INKED)

11/12/2009

A lease has been signed for the currently vacant space at 35 Atlantic St., the former location of Galangal in downtown Stamford.

Chinese Mirch, an Indian-Chinese fusion restaurant with two locations in Manhattan (Murray Hill and the Upper East Side), will open in downtown Stamford according to Steve Matsis of Capital Restaurant Group, LLC.

Has anybody been to the Chinese Mirch in New York? What do you think?

FROM THE TIMES (2004):

Chinese Mirch is the first Manhattan restaurant to serve this strange but satisfying hybrid of two of the city’s favorite cuisines. Chinese-Indian food, like Chinese-Cuban and Chinese-American, took shape when a community of Chinese immigrants had to stretch its home cooking to accommodate a new environment and new ingredients. (The most notable adaptation on the menu at Chinese Mirch is its omission of pork and beef, which are forbidden, respectively, to Muslims and Hindus, the two dominant religious groups in India.)

I have been to Lex location long time back on crazy friday and absolutely loved the food, tried the food at the Stamford location and was amazed by the presentation and the taste which was duplicated exactly the same. Excellent Food.

We tried this place on friend’s recommendation that it is supposed to be better than Chilli Chicken which is near Bull’s head on High Ridge road. This place has a good ambience and decor but the food is not even close to Chili chicken in comparison. We ordered Chicken lolipop which is not quite authentic and was an American variation that was more dry and less spicy. Crispy schezwan lamb is nice but they need to rename it to not crispy. The steamed/fried momos have nothing to write home about. If you are looking for some authentic Indian Chinese like you get on the streets of Mumbai, then Chili chicken is a far better option, and cheaper also.

Eagerly awaiting the opening of this family favorite right here in Stamford! No more driving through dense traffic and toll booths when the craving hits for the wonderful hybrid blend of chinese and Indian flavors. Hope the menu and the chef here is able to duplicate the NY location offerings.

  5. There’s already a Chinese-Indian hybrid restaurant in Stamford at the old Tawa location in Bull’s Head (also owned by Tawa owners) called Chili-Chicken. Our first meal there was very good and we will be back.

Yes, it is good though quality has slipped over the years. There’s a spicy duck dish, fried okra, salt and pepper prawns. You have to have an adventurous palate to enjoy it.
