LBC Pick of the Week: French fry stuffed Arabic chicken wrap

LAYLA’S FALAFEL: 245 MAIN STREET AND 926 HIGH RIDGE ROAD, STAMFORD

1/27/2010

I’ve always loved the Arabic chicken wrap at Layla’s Falafel, which has two locations in Stamford, but stuffing it with fries is definitely the way to go. You’re going to want to slather it with the house-made hot sauce too.

It is not even on the menu, but Dino will hook you up. “Overseas, they put french fries in everything,” says owner Dino Sakakini regarding the use of fries in wraps an pitas in the Middle East, “everything is better with french fries.”

The chicken, lamb and falafel plates are so good I haven’t had the chance to try the lamb chops, except for the time when Dino handed me a to-go chop to gnaw on while walking down Main St.

He’s trying to get me hooked. It just might work.

  1. Second one is on High Ridge, Chris. Where’s the picture?
Btw, your 411 piece on The seas were angry is right on. That soliquy second only to Lou Grants in Chuckles Bites the Dust (Mary Tyler Moore)

“We laugh at death so death won’t have the last laugh on us.”

  2. LG,

Thanks for the catch. Yeah…I wanted to just post something and I didn’t happen to get a photo when I ducked in for lunch the other day.

  4. I was a regualar at Layla’s where I used to get the shawarma wrap and chat with Imad (I guess he calls himself Dino… I’m confused) which was wrapped in a tortilla with lots of garlic and no french fries.. until my coworker introduced me to Myrnas Bistro on East Main St. where they have three different real pita wraps (not spanish wraps for Arabic food).. You should check out their famous chicken kebab, Myrna’s chicken or the chicken shawarma which they make with real pita bread wraps. This is the original Lebanese bistro that carry the real concept of French fries in their wraps… Now I have to try the lamp chops at Layla’s because I’ve had them at Myrna’s with their home made green hot sauce and the grilled veggies which were simply tender and delicious. I guess the Middles eastern cuisine is becoming more popular in Stamford.
